I have a toddler who has curly hair and I'm wondering if anyone can give me some advice on what they use for their kids hair to keep the knots at bay!?
Its such a drama even combing each morning. I've tried one brand but that doesn't help at all.
Any advice would be much appreciated! Never thought I'd have a child with curly hair but it comes from DH's fathers side apparently... Looks v. cute though!
I use a detangler sometimes and it works a treat - you only need a tiny bit.
My hair is more wavey than curly but its always tangled easily so when I was younger my mother used to keep it cut fairly short to save me from the trauma of too much de-tangling.
SIL's daughter has short curly hair and it's sooo cute.
Are you brushing it when its wet or dry?
DH has ringlets/barrel curls and always brushes it wet or damp as its a lot easier, less knots and tagles,a nd the curls look better with a lot less frizz.
I have naturally curly hair and use schwartzkoph (sp) leave in conditioner spray and my saving grace is the schwartzkoph cream leave in conditioner (it comes in a grey tube with a green lid) and I just put it in and leave it or blow dry it with a diffuser. You can get both of these from the supermarket and I would be lost without them - also I never ever brush when dry - frizz city and a very scary look!!! I also never use a brush to brush my hair - a wide tooth comb is best but in all honesty most of the time I just use my fingers when my hair is wet and then blow dry it.
I too have curly hair & Matilda did have ringlets early on. I used a baby product on her hair called "gaia natural spray on conditioner and detangler" which worked marvels on her hair. I would spray it on and comb out the knots.
One thing my hubby didn't know as he has straight hair is that the way to comb or brush the hair is by working your way up, starting at the bottom in small doses.... He would try to comb from the top down which always ended in tears. HTH
Olivia has curly ringlets and it can be a drama to get her hair brushed in the morning.......screaming tanties a lot of days!
Like Christy, we use the Gaia natural spray on conditioner and detangler.
And now that Olivia's hair is longer (halfway down her back type of length) definately start at the bottom to get the knots out, then brush from the middle, then the top, like Christy says.
(It has taken me a while to get to grips with my little madams curly hair tantrums, as I have short straight hair, but we are there now..........!)
Tehya has curls too, not huge ones just ringlets from mid length down. I make sure that I shampoo and conditon her hair every morning. Then I brush her hair while it is still wet. If I need to re do her hair during the day I just spray some Johnsons detangler spray in her hair. I can't dry brush it as it turns all frizzy.
Really hoping she keeps her curls too. Not likely though. No one at all has curls in either of our families, complete throw back there.
OK it's curl city at our place. my hair is very curly, and so is my DD's. I only ever brush hers when it's wet, and use a detangling, leave in conditioner. The brush from the ends tip is a winner here too, and some days if we're running late, I spray it and give it a quick "finger comb" and then put it up. Works for us.
