is it ok?-sleeping with dummy

my DD is 2 months now and she loves to sleeep with her dummy in her mouth. We bought the Nuk ones as they have a nice silicone shape but the plastic bit at the front leaves 2 red mark on either side of her mouth-it it ok for her to sleep with the dummy in her mouth the whole night? I tried taking it out when i think she falls asleep , but she wakes up as soon as i take it out

It would be fine for your bub to sleep with her dummy in her mouth... I always took my kids dummies out though, mostly because I was paranoid that there could be some kind of stuff up with the dummy and the whole teat bit could come off... also because I didn't want them to become reliant on it when they didn't need it.

DD2 uses a dummy for sleeps too but she spits them out when shes asleep, there fine to use!!

They are safe to use in fact the last time I checked the latest SIDS information they were actually suggesting babies sleep with dummies.

yep they are fine. Mia sleeps with a dummy. Usually she spits it out once shes in a deep sleep, sometimes she doesnt. It might be the shape of the Nuk ones thats leaving red marks. There are so many dummies out there so mayb try a different one? I tried heaps before I found one she was happy with and it was the Tommee Tippee ones. There are so many different shapes and sizes.. i was quite amazed.

i have to agree with the other girls, dummies are fine to sleep with! DS always sleeps with one, sometimes he spits it out sometimes he dosent. the only thing is it can become quiet annoying for you if she loses it during the night and starts calling out for it every hour that is until there old enough to find it and put it back in there own mouth!!

Dummies are fine, DD slept with one til she was 4.5! But just always make sure there are no holes in the teat and there is no damage to the plastic of the dummy - that can cause issues.

We tried out heaps of brand until we found one that DD liked, didn't leave big marks and didn't cause rashes around her mouth. Cause she had it in there sooooo much some brands didn't let her skin breath and it caused a lot of issues.

Yeah, dummies are fine in my book DD sleeps with three sometimes - one in her gob and one in each hand in case she spits it out during the night, she just pops another one in rather than waking herself up grappling around trying to find the first one!! She has slept with one pretty much since birth, we've never had an issue with choking etc - just make sure you check the dummies regularly and bin any that are showing signs of wear and tear.
I loved the Nuk ones too, and yeah they gave DD a bit of a rash/red mark around her mouth from her dribble, but unless it gets infected or develops into open sores I wouldn't worry too much - if it's a concern for you there are heaps of other brands on the market with different-shaped fronts (although I know what it's like to find a brand you like and want to stick with it, I've had to wean myself off Avent dummies because they're just SO expensive and DD goes through them - loses them all the time - like they're going out of fashion so I've switched from $10 for 2 Avent dummies, to $5 for three Tommee Tippee ones) that you could try and see how they go. In my experience, DD didn't mind what shape or brand I gave her, as long as she had something to suck on she accepted it without a fuss

great thats a relief! what about after feeding she goes to sleep and sometimes milk comes out of her mouth, would the dummy make her choke? what happens if she wants to cough, wouldnt the dummy kinda block her mouth from breathing?

I have heard a few times that bubs are designed to use their noses for breathing, rather than their mouths - breathing through our mouth is something we learn as we get older, kwim? So as long as bub isn't congested, she should be fine to breathe/cough/spit up a little without any issues. Most of their actions are instinctual, they're good at spitting dummy out if they need to cry or cough, your only trouble then is that she might wake herself because she can't find her dummy again and you'll have to pop it back in for her!!

I wish I had this "problem" with my DD, she HATED and I mean hated dummies, we tried every brand, shape, type under the sun!

She was a thumb sucker but loved being wrapped, took us a while to find a way to wrap her with one arm out that she couldnt unwrap the rest, kwim? lol

just over 3 and I'm still trying to get her to stop sucking her thumb!

HAHAHAHAHAHA OMG yes, the 'clink, clink' and then the 'wwwooooOOOOORRRRRR!!!' that indicates it is definitely awake time lol
I listen out for it and then it's like, 'Urgh, now I REALLY have to get up because in a second she'll take her pants off and pee everywhere' lol
