Ways to get RID of the DUMMY!!!!

Well i want to get rid of DD's tummy.
At the moment she only has it in bed when sleeping (once during day and overnight).
I have to barrier cream her face due to the rash she keeps getting from the drool with the dummy and i thinking i should try to get rid of the use all together ..

ANy hints...

NOw remember she is only 13 months so the dummy fairy and all that is too old for her to comprehend....

Is it a matter of just refuse it?

Sorry I can't help you, we took it from Paris when she got a cold (and couldn't breath with it) over easter long weekend (so we could both deal with it if need be) when she was 18 months, she never asked for it again, and it was quickly forgotten. My little man on the other hand is 2.5 and still has his and we'll be sending it to Santa at Christmas so he can get a special present Just make sure whatever you do block out a period of time so you can stay up and cuddle and sleep the next day if need be, or even take turns in settling between you and DH.

We recently got rid of Izzy's and she is only a month or so older than Ashley. She only used it at night and day sleeps not during the day etc... but we just got rid of them. Hid them all, in fact I don't even know where DH put them and as Cai mentioned we got ourselves prepared to cuddle and comfort for a few days until she got used to sleeping without it again.

It didn't take too long and a few days of little grizzles for day naps and she is fine without them now. I do use teddies for her day naps but rotate them around - she has a few fav's and she watches me give him kisses and cuddles and even says "ssshhhh" Like I do with her when she is unsettled! So funny.
Good luck with it and I think now is probably a good time to do it!

PP I accidentally forgot to give it to DD when she was 22 mths and she eventually went to sleep at nap time without it (took her an extra half an hour, but she did go down herself). Given that it wasn't necessary at that nap I phased it out over a week by not giving it to her at nap time at all but giving it to her at night time. We saved cutting it out at night for the weekend when we were both there! She didn't really complain the first night, complained for about 5-10 mins the second night and never asked for it again.

We bought DD2 a brand new teddy bear. And gave it to her the first night while on a 4 day trip away.

She had dummy and "ruggy" (flannelette nappy comforter) every time she went to bed and sometimes while awake and sooky too. She was 14 months old at the time.

The ruggy was starting to get grotty and embarrasing and dummy making rashes so it was time for them to go.

First night away just as putting her in to bed she asks for ruggy.... we say ruggy is not here, but wow, look at this cute teddy he wants to cuddle you and sleep in your bed, can you look after him? Making a big fuss of the ted.

So being on hols and being quite tired and distracted by being in another place and another bed and having a new toy all added up to an easy transition.

She became very attached to the ted but gave him up later as she got older. But at least there were no more rashes and a teddy is a bit more decent looking than a grotty rag of nappy when you go in public.

The ted was dark brown and machine washable - very important!

Also important - be sure to completely dispose of every dummy and ruggy in sight, if they get them back it could be harder next time.

Might have to watch them around other innocent by-passing kids in prams with dummies too, we were involved in a walk by dummy snatching one day... very embarrasing...
