Now that DD has started crawling I am facing the dilemma I'm sure many people have faced!! I usually shower when DH is home or Mackenzie is in bed but if that isn't the case - what do I do?
Our house is very small and we're moving soon so there isn't any point putting up barriers yet. Mackenzie is just starting to discover new things so I really don't know what things I need to baby proof yet! Obviously I can move"dangerous" things but I know that babies can find their way into many things! She used to have an activity centre to "stand" in but I gave that back. Any ideas?
I either put her in the cot with lots of toys (and take monitor into shower so I can hear if she is getting upset) or put her in the bathroom with me with the door closed and lots of toys and let her play while I shower. Put the bin and the toilet brush on the windowsill / cupboard so she can't get into them.
I used to put DS in his highchair in the bathroom and just made sure he had some toys. When he wakes up in the morning he like to have a play in his cot so I usually jump in the shower then.
Ooh I like high chair idea - der of course I could have thought of that!! Lucky I have BB members to help me when I lose my mind! Our bathroom is VERY small so I would have to put her just out side of it but that's okay.
Muppity - I had to laugh when I first read your thread I thought youmeant have her in with me!! Then I realised that you meant a seperate bath!! Our bath is part of the shower. I had vision of Mackenzie fully clothes playing in our bath while I'm showering in it!!
That's not so silly! Sometimes I have put DS in the bath seat in the bottom of the shower while I am showering (of course, he isn't wearing clothes).
I either leave DS in the activity centre (but I know you said you returned yours), or I let him crawl around on the floor with toys. I think if I put DS in the highchair he would be expecting food!)
I used to put my girls in the bottom while I was in the shower - naked!
They just crawled around & played while I had my shower. Saves time.
ATM I put Jesse either in the rocker or the pram. Pram is easier for me.
If she is in the highchair you could always give her some food - shower at morniong tea time. Otherwise a good selection of toys should keep her amused. I found the high chair great as DD could see me and I could talk to her while having my shower.
Sit her in the bottom of the shower with you, thats what I do with DD. Before she could sit up on her own I would take the highchair or swing/rocker into the bathroom with me.
I used to just shower when Claire was sleeping... if that wasnt possible, then I'd bring her into the bathroom with some toys so she could play on the floor with the toys.
I usually have DF around to help me look after Isabell while showering, but now that we have a bumbo i think i will use that when DF isnt around to help.
Also the high chair is a good idea too
when he was small enough or woudl let me he sat in his chair/bouncer with some toys and watched me.. he still will do that occasionally but usually i have to shower when DH is home...
when DH is travelling i shower either when N is at care or a v quick shower while he sits in bouncer and plays (i have to sing and splash water on shower door etc to keep him happy)
my DD sits outside the shower and will watch me and is quite happy to do so. i will give her different things to play with though, like my moisturiser jar or my deodorant stick, she loves them!!
Same as a few people already - if he was asleep I'd be ok, otherwise, DS would just have to come in with me and play on the floor of the shower. I started using Moo Goo products quite early on (DS was about 3 months old when I started), so I was never worried about him sucking on shampoo water or body wash - it's water grade! So, I'd recommend using natural products (not just products that claim to be 'natural', actually research it!) if you're showering with babies - ingestion of anything else can't be great for them!
