DS has been playing at being Daddy. "I go to work now. I go in Mini." So all Daddy does is drive the Mini? DS will also point to aeroplanes and helicopters and identify them as belonging to his father, because DH shows DS U-Tube clips of the planes and copters that he works on. But DS seems to think that DH drives his car and sometimes goes fishing.
I'm sure that Sam thinks DH hides in the phone when he goes to work... That's where his voice is, anyway! Sam can't really talk yet, but he seems to like to bring me the phone handset while DH is working. He gets cranky if I just put it down, so when he brings me the phone handset I figure he's asking to talk to daddy.
DD has no idea what her Dad does. She does, however, know what I do. "Mummy looks after sick people... so does Aunty Rachel". If you ask her to show you, she gets her baby doll and "listens" to her heart with a toy stethoscope (or mine if it's in reach), gives her pretend medicine, and pats her head saying "all better now". Gawd I hope she isn't going to be a nurse!
We often drop-off and pick-up DH from work and DS thinks Daddy works "at the shops" - which is a very prestigious place of work indeed! DS absolutely LOVES shopping centers, and DH's building kind of looks like there could be some shops in there somewhere. (Oh and btw, DH does Bushfire Management and remote Bushfire fighting for National Parks - how boring compared to working at the shops! ).
DD isn't anywhere near old enough to understand yet..but DF mostly works from home so I'm sure all she'll see is him sitting on his bum in front of a computer most of the day
DH and I have talked about this before from when we were little! My dad is an engineer so I never really understood what he did as a kid and DH's was in the public service so he didn't understand either.
Our kids are "lucky" in that we both have easily explained jobs! I am a teacher so DS says "mummy teaches the childrens" and DH is a postie so every postie DS sees is "daddy" LOL
Ds isn't very verbal yet, but he does tell me "truck, truck" when I say dad's at work, so he knows he works with trucks (he's a depot manager)- which of course, for a two year little boy, is very, very cool.
