Tips for moving house with young bub?

I will be moving house within the week, and I've been quietly worrying about what kind of affect it might have on my 4 month old DS. I guess I'm worried that the new, unfamiliar surroundings might unsettle him a bit? Has anyone found this to be the case? Any tips for making the transition as unsettling as possible?

We have moved house twice since DS was born, once to a rental then we bought our current home. TBH it didn't seem to affect him at all & he was a lot older. I would think at that age it wouldn't be too much different. For my DS it was a bit of a novelty as he had all new things to explore.
The only thing I can suggest is to make it like if you were going to stay away a night & ensure you have all the familiar things he will need, like special blanket etc. We made sure DS room was set up first with what he needed & what comforts him so he would adjust to the new room right away.

TBH the hardest part is trying to get everything moved & unpacked with a bubs to watch also....hope it all goes well.

Hi sterla, we moved when ds was around 5months old. How are you going with all the packing? its not fun is it?
Here are some things i did with ds that i think helped the transition.

[LIST]I packed a bag full of things that ds would need on the trip and for the first few days in the new place. That way i didn't have to rummage through boxes when i got there.[*]try to keep things as familiar as possible, make sure your bubs favourite things like a blanky, toy etc are with him when he has his first sleep in his new room[*]try to make his new room look as much like his old room as possible, maybe arrange the room the same as it was in your old place or use the same curtains that you had in your old place.[*]do you play any music when he sleeps? ds listens to a lullaby cd when he sleeps so i made sure i had that playing when he moved into his new room.[*]lots of kisses and cuddles and reassurance. He will probabaly be restless the first few sleeps in the new place but keep reassuring him and he'll soon get used to it.[*]You could always try putting an item of your clothing in his cot that smells like you as that might help to comfort him.[*]most importantly try to stay in routine as much as possible (i know thats hard when moving house) give him his bath the same time you always would, same goes for his naps and night time sleep. My boys really thrive on routine and i found that sticking to our normal routine as much as possible throughout the move really helped.

Hope that helps. Moving is a nightmare, especially with a bub- i know, i've done it twice! Good luck
