Question White Noise Sound Machine Thingo

    Hiya!

Does anyone know where I can get one of those white noise sound machine thingos which block out sudden noise (screaming toddlers, earlybirds chirping, doors slamming, horns beeping etc) to help a baby sleep?

My Mum has one that she bought years ago which has different sound options - white noise, heartbeat, rainfall, ocean waves etc. However, neither of us have come across any since. There are some available on Ebay but they are all in the US and of course that means big shipping fees.

Anyone bought or seen one recently in Australia for a reasonable $??

    Thanks

Do you have an IPOD or MP3 player? I have an old IPOD plus some cheap speakers ($20) and just downloaded white noise tracks from ITunes (there are loads of them). When DD was very little I used the white noise tracks alot, now only if having trouble sleeping and during the day I have use lullabye type songs (all off the IPOD).

We sometimes use the pedestal fan, turn it on high, but face it to the wall so we don't create a wind storm in the bedroom ) - it drowns out noise well (and is free if you already have one, or most dept stores eg Kmart sell them for about $15)

We used either a CD alarm clock with 'Music for Dreaming' or a Fisher Price aquarium toy which made ocean sounds. They also brought out a jungle one which had a creek noise and crickets.

We got ours as a gift but they sell them at the shaver shop or I have also seen them at tandy. They are by homeped (sp?) and have all of those sound options and a light show which is optional.

Thanks Alibaby - just checked out the Homedics Lullaby SoundSpa online - what a ripper product. Bit more than I wanted to spend, but I may be able to convince DH....

Many of the products claiming to produce white noise are recordings or simulations of wind, waves, and other sounds that are in reality quite a bit more complex than white noise.
