Am I putting him to bed too early?

My 13 month old usually has his bath around 6:30-7:00 and is in bed by 7:30 at the latest. We don't start his whole bed routine until he is acting tired and he really seems ready to go to bed. But for the last few weeks without fail, we put him into bed and its like he gets a whole new lease of life- he plays and bounces and natters to himself and squeals in his cot for at least half an hour before deciding he might be ready for sleep. He's not upset at all, so I just leave him to sort himself out, but it makes me wonder if I am putting him to bed too early. Or is this just part of his whole settling process?

If he's not upset, I think it should be okay? With both my girls around 13 months they dropped one of their day sleeps, and just before (by a few weeks) they would be less tired at night or wake up more frequently during the night. BUT with both of mine, they resisted going to sleep... fought it for all its worth.

I'd say it's just him winding down, just nattering to himself and processing the day. If he's sleeping well (not waking up a lot) and not getting up too early, and he's not protesting and screaming the house down, I'd keep things as is

Yeah, I agree with Lori...we have the same routine in this house, and although jack usually goes straight to sleep, sometimes he will play for a while in his cot if he needs to wind down.

Lulu- - I think the time is very nice too- by that time I am very ready to have him in bed!!!

Thanks all, my instinct is that he is just winding down. He's such a busy, active soul I think he just needs to calm down. I'm glad he can amuse himself!

My DS is 21 months old, still has two day naps and is in bed by 7pm every night unless we are out for dinner or something then it is usually 8pm on the rare occasion!! DS does do that some nights when it has been an active day but will fall asleep within the 45min frame.
