Question worried about 13 month olds poo

This has been worrying me for about 2 weeks now. DS has been pooing about 5 times a day recently. Pretty much within 10 mins of having a meal. His poos are sloppy (but not diarrhea) and contain lots of undigested food. I mean, i can see everything he has eaten. Its mostly the meal before that comes out iykwim? like at afternnon tea, i get a lunch poo and at dinner i get an afternoon tea poo.

SHould i be worried?? cause i am starting to be. Is it just normal poo? at first i thought he was teething as they had a bit of mucous in them but no more teeth yet that i can see. They are really smelly too. He does eat a lot of fruit and grainy bread so gets a good amount of fibre.

Sorry about the poo talk but please ease my mind..........

It could be that he is getting too much fibre kwim? Eating a lot of fruit can do it - my DS is the same and after many months of it and poo tests and blood tests to rule out intolerances, the Paed said it was more than likely just toddler diahhroea and that the lower bowel isn't absorbing all the water from the motion as it should be. So he suggested to cut back on the fruit, don't give fruit juices (especially apple - both as a fruit and a juice), not that he had juice much anyway. And to not have muesli bars too. We gradually saw an improvement and he is back to doing one, maybe two a day and they are more solid and less offensive. He will have a run of it every now and then, but we can usually attribute that to what he's eaten if he has had a lot of fruit etc.

Thanks Trillion, i'll cut back on his fruit and see how we go. Its such an easy thing to give him to eat. I cant remember the last time i changed a nappy that didnt have a poo in it

Hi! My dd has always been like that and only seemed to drop to two poos a day when she stopped teething. She doesn't have a huge amount of fruit or anything. Because they were always sloppy and not diarrhoea I wasn't too worried. I just assumed it was because she was eating plenty of fibre. She never seemed worried about it and she's just chubby enough. It will be interesting to see how he goes with less fruit. Good luck!

Ashton has a fructose intolerance which was diagnosed at 2.5yrs. The only fruit he can have is berried fruit. So strawberries, blueberries etc. Absoloutley no fruit juice at all and no fruit based cordials. There is a pile of stuff with fructose in it that also had to be cut out of his diet.

If you are concerned you can get a referral for a hydrogen breath test which is a really easy. For younger bubs, they just stick a small plastic tube near their nose and draw the child's breath into a tube as the child breathes out. It does take 3hrs though, and they have to have a sugary drink prior to starting the test which they give them.
