I'm really struggling with DD's sleep at the moment. It would seem she doesn't need any
How many naps did/ does your 9 month old have/ need?
DD seems to have a good sleep in the morning (from around 10-11am) and then again in the afternoon (any time from 3pm onwards for half an hour). But I've been finding that if she sleeps later then it's almost impossible to get her to sleep at bedtime (no matter how early or late the bedtime is).
I'm going to try the rule that if she hasn't had a nap by 3.30pm then I'll just stretch her out until bedtime. We're doing this today and she's doing ok (for now).
She's a nightmare to settle at the moment but is teething big time.
I'm pooped! (and so is she but she just can't see the wood for the trees just now).
I'll give , Im good for those
DD was having 2 naps a day but has always been a very poor daytime sleeper, so 2 of 45 minutes at 9 months of age. It certainly does seem at times that these tiny little beings just simply do not need to sleep I dont have any advice but wanted to offer the hugs and info on DD at that age, hang in there
DD was having 2 naps a day at that age.....around 9:30am and then around 2:30pm....(from memory!) BUT I remember having to ensure her 2nd day sleep wasn't too late in the arvo otherwise yeah it was hard to get her to bed....that rule still applies today even with just 1 day nap now.
DD transitioned around 12mths/13mths to 1 day nap.....
I remember 9mths of age was a very difficult age with sleep!! and she was waking ALOT at night time too! Particularly because of her teething!!!!!
Today my LO was up at 8.30am. looked tired at 12 but wouldn't go to sleep (despite trying 4 times) until 4pm. slept until almost 5. she has just had dinner bath and now feeding (hopefully) to sleep. wish us luck
DS was a shocker of a day sleeper up until the last couple of weeks. from around 3 months until 11 months old he would have 2-3 half hour naps per day. he didnt sleep thru the night until he was 4 months old and that is on and off still. most nights he will sleep thru others he might wake up have a bottle then settle again. at the moment he is now having an hour sleep in the morning, and a two hour in the afternoon. i wouldnt worry too much about it, she will sort herself out again soon. it really is hard and i can only offer hugs to you. i hope things start improving for you soon xx
I read somewhere between five and 11 months babies only need 9 to 12 hours sleep in a 24 hr period. Dunno how true it is but it was and is the case around here.
at 9 months was having 2 sleeps but I remember having problems getting him down. I found that moving around his meal times helped heaps, as with the activities I was doing with him. (should say that he wasnt on full on meals obviously but he was still having small ones and breastfeeds). I was giving him morning tea before his first sleep and lunch before his 2nd. For us we found all that did was give him an energy high when he couldnt handle it. I still gave him the breastfeeds before nap time, but gave him the food after he woke up, we found that really help get him down easier. hope you get some relief soon.
oh *hug* I understand what you're going through! So far, all three of my DD's have been the same. My most recent DD has been doing the same thing but we haven't broken the routine yet! Good luck with the new rule!
My little one is having 2x 2hour sleeps a day and in bed for the night at 5.30pm. I keep waiting for it to change but it hasn't yet so I am still going with it. I have found with the teething she has a little grizzle to go to sleep at night, but through the day she LOVES bed and goes in there singing and gurgling till sleep comes. I think she likes the space from the 2 older ones!
With the other 2 children I made 2.30 the cut off for falling to sleep for a nap. otherwise I found that they really couldn't settle easily at night. The walk after dinner is a good thing for sure!
Well today she's only had one 40 minute nap. So I have brought our dinner forward by an hour, she's had her bath and DH is doing the walk with her just now. Poor wee sausage looks buggered.
Fingers crossed she goes over ok and isn't too overtired. She's been really good the past 2 nights. Long may it last
FWIW my DS was always tricky with naps at that stage (and even now)... But at around 9 months,he was having 2 or 3 most days, but he never slept for more than 30 mins! Try not to let the confusion get you down, I still have it now at 18 months, I think these precious little things will still have us guessing in ten years time!
Hopefully the fresh air would have done your wee one good. I remember those days (and not too long ago either...) with only one short nap! DS looked so buggered by 6 pm you really felt sorry for him. But hey, if they don't wanna sleep they will suffer! lol. My DS has a brilliant new plan ATM. ONE nap a day but thankfully it's a good 1.5 -2 hour one so he can just last the distance till his 8.30 bed time. They are such cheeky little monkeys
It's the naps and how late she has a nap in the day. Yesterday was good, she went down at 6pm and slept.
Today we had a nap (both her and I, I needed a snooze ) at 2.30pm - 4pm. She wasn't tired until 8.30pm. So I think that we just time the naps well, or accept that if she naps later then she goes to bed later.
