    4 month immunisations questions!!!

    Hi
My Ds is having his needles today and i was told you dont need to give panadol half an hour before injections anymore as the new immunisations dont cause fevers, does anyone know if this is true? I would prefer him not to have it if not needed but on other hand wouldnt like him to be in any pain. Also i have heard after these ( 4 month) alot of babies become very unsettled (more than any other immunisation), sleeping patterns are all over the place for a week or so afterwards?? Has anyone had this happen to there babies? This may be a silly question but you get told so many different things i would just like to be half prepared. Thanks..

You don't need the panadol if you don't want to give it. Its totally up to you.
DS was unsettled for a day or two. Not a week, but every baby is different.

I didn't give DS any panadol and he was ok. He was unsettled for about the next 24 hours and then he was fine.

Having needles is not very nice for anyone, but if you give him lots of cuddles and BF straight afterwards, he'll be ok

Well i did give abbie panadol, each baby is different but at her last ones she was really upset and ihave two other children at home andit was really hard, so i decided to give her panadol this time and it was a much better day.

    Thank Nikki

There are two reasons why they say not to give panadol first anymore. One is that it might not be needed as not all babies get fever, and it's best not to give panadol un-necessarily. The second is that it no longer recommended to give panadol for a fever, unless it is a high fever. We now know that fever helps the body fight the infection which is why we get a fever. And unless the fever is over 38.5 or so (some would say even higher), the fever does more good than harm. Funny that nature would know what it's doing! So I would not give it at all unless your little one has a high fever afterwards. Or if they seem to be in pain.

Mantaray thankyou he was a little unsettled after the first lot for a day or so and i gave him panadol before those ones. I will not give it this time unless he needs it afterwards.

Nikki i always gave it with dd but was the done thing then and i probably would if i had little ones to care for also. thanks

Laranna i plan on feeding him straight afterwards and dp will be on hand for the cuddles also.

Bj rose i am glad it was only unsettling for a day or two i hope its the same here.

Abb- i hope things go well... DD is having hers on Friday. I dont give any before but after the last lot she had a huge lump and some swelling as the woman was BRUTAL. It was too cold for an ice pack so i gave panadol after and she was ok after except she woke up screaming for 3 days after.

Hopefully this time things go better
