Is it age 2 that you measure your child to find out their height in adulthood?

    Hi,

Just wondering if someone can tell me if it is at age 2 that you measure your child to predict how tall they will be as an adult? and what do I do? Just measure her height and double it?

Hi, i was always told to measure and double it so we just went of DS height at 2 year check. We are going to have one very tall boy as he was 92.5cm at 2 years.

My MCHN told me this is a fallacy. She checked her children's records and it is not the case for any of her 4 children. Of course, it may be a good approximation but so much depends on their diet, health, contact with toxins (such as smoking, drugs and alcohol in adolescence, caffeine or prescription drugs such as steroids for asthma/allergies) in years to come that there is no perfect predictor.

yep it's age two but it's not accurate. It's has not worked for anyone I know, apart from my husband who was predicted to be 6'2 and is a very close 6'4.

Supposedly it worked for my brother... But I'm hoping it doesn't wring true for poor DS. If it does he will be shorter than me and I'm only just 160cm. At his 2 year checkup he measured 78.5cm.

Apparantely (according to my MCHN) it works for girls at 2 years but not for boys as you don't know how much testosterone they will get to increase their height...
