    Unhappy Clingy 7 month old

Hi everyone! My 7 month old son has become overly clingy towards me. It is getting to the point where I can't even sit next to him without him wanting to be held and if I even try to walk away (just a couple of steps) he screams. I don't want him to grow up being unable to be without me. I have tried to just let him cry but he does not stop until I come back to him. The longest I've left it is 40 minutes and I just couldn't leave him any longer. Does anyone have any tips on how I can encourage independance or is this just a stage that babies go through?

I feel your pain, but feel assured it is a phase!
Your DS has just worked out that he is a seperate being from you, and his mind is trying to understand that you leaving does not mean you go forever.
Play some games like hide the ball under the cup, so he learns just because you can not see it, does not mean it has gone.
Also when you move away from him, keep talking to him.
Just go out the room and come back, he will learn.
    hope the phase is short.

This is definitely a separation anxiety stage that most babies go through. My DS2 was an absolute shocker, we renamed him velcro-baby because he just wanted to cling to me all day. Please don't worry about it being permanent, they do get past it. DS2 is now a very independent 2 year old .

I just carried him with me when I could and if I had to leave the room I would let him know that I'd be back shortly (even if he screamed) and I would keep talking while in the other room so he knew I wasn't far away.

I can't remember when he grew out of it, but it definitely hasn't caused any long-term problems.

    Thanks!

Thank you both. That has definitely put my mind at ease. It is nice to be wanted but really this is ridiculous

    Thanks again for your advice.

    LOL

I know! Before having a baby I never would've thought that going to the toilet in peace was something that I took for granted LOL.

it does get easier, but for those tough days it might be a good investment to grab a sling?

they save me from going mental. If she is having an uber clingy day I just throw her on my back and carry on
