My DS is 14 months old now and has been bumshuffling since just after 12 months. He has never crawled and is not pulling himself up from sitting or up on furniture. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how long their bumshufflers took to walk??
My DD started bumshuffling at about 10 months and she walked just before 18 months. She never crawled and didn't pull herself up on things until she was over 12 months.
I have been told it is normal for bottom shufflers to walk later. They are mobile and upright, so perhaps they don't look for a new challenge like crawlers do.
On the upside, when DD did walk she could do it perfectly. I didn't have to worry about a wobbly toddler falling over and hurting herself.
Just thought I would update this thread. DS went from bumshuffling to walking in just over a month. He started walking at 17.5 months It sure makes life easier now that I don't have to pick him up quite as much.
My DS started bumshuffling at 12 months. He didn't pull himself up to standing or walk for ages after that, and in fact would walk holding on to our hands before he would cruise around furniture. He is now 16 months and I think I can now say that he's walking well. Only problem is he still hasn't worked out how to stand up without holding on to something, so if he falls over and can't get himself up again, he'll just bumshuffle still.
Anyway, so it took him about 4 months from the time he started bumshuffling to the time he was walking more than bumshuffling. I am really pleased, as I thought it would take a lot longer.
