    Rolling while sleeping

My 7 month old DD has recently started rolling over during sleep. My mum said that when they work out how to roll over, a lot of babies become tummy sleepers. I always put DD on her back when putting her to bed but she always ends up on side or tummy. Mum said by this age if she can get into that position she can get out of it as well (which is true, she gets into all sorts of positions). But I just wanted to check if she knows enough to position her head in a way that she can still breathe ok all the time?

Also, she always ends up against the bars of the cot with an arm hanging out of the cot, is that ok?

Danniellabella- I brought one of those air warpas (ezi breathe cot bumpers) to stop DD from getting her arms stuck between the cot bars... I was worried that if she got her arms stuck she wouldnt be able to get them out if her face was smooshed against the wood planks... Its stopped her from hanging out through the panels so far.

Also about the rolling you can buy the positioners but for my DD (only 20 weeks) she just pushes off with her feet and scoots up past the positioner and rolls anyways. I think the only thing you can do is remove all un-neccesary items in the cot (if you have any) make sure she's tucked in well and the blankets arent TOO heavey (like a baby doona) . My worry is when DD rolls she spins round the other way so her head is where the blankets are... I wrap her up in a cot sheet so it kinds keps her arms and legs tight together and she cant use them to asist with rolling... appart from that i'm not sure thereis much you can do... My DS was a tummy sleeper from 6 months and no matter how many times i'd roll him over or wrap him he'd still end up on his tummy (just like me)

DD sleeps in a sleeping bag because she wriggles out of blankets no matter how tight they are.

jayda does that and it drives me insane. i tried the anti roll thing but she pushes her self out of the top of it too.
she can roll from back to belly but cant get back. she is always on her belly when i go to get her of a mornign or for a bottle so i think i might start puttin her on her belly and she prob wont move so much.

Danni, JMO but I think it's futile to try to prevent them from sleeping the way they want!
If she's in a sleeping bag I reckon she'd be fine. By 7 months her neck strength should be great.
If you are really worried you can try one of those positioning things, but if it were me, I'd just go with the flow.

I'm with Snacks. My boy is a tummy sleeper and has been for a while....it is where he is the most comfy, and TBH it is for me too!

I was told by a midwife that by the time they are rolling you don't have to worry about trying to back sleep them.

She said the main thing when they tummy sleep is to not over dress them or have too warm blankets/ too heavy sleeping bag on them because the SIDS risk with tummy sleeping is mostly from overheating. Apparently they are less likely to overheat on their backs (so she told me).

I was a tummy sleeper from birth and it didn't do me any harm, so was my DF.

My son is already starting to do the same thing (or an his side) as the back sleeper can't contain him anymore & he manages to roll perfectly well in his sleeping bag.
