So what do you say?? What are your come-backs?
I am tired of being made out to be an irresponsible parent because I allow my DS to wear a necklace!

Have to say I don't think I've ever had negative comments..maybe because DD is a girl?! I'd just tell them that you love it, it isn't dangerous, in fact it's a lot less dangerous than having to give him pain relief containing chemicals all the time (like Bonjela/Panadol/Nurofen).
I have amber on both my boys aged almost 3 and 10 months, never had any comments although my 10mo does get mistaken for a girl quite often - but he is rather pretty looking and only ever in a nappy and singlet so yer maybe a bit hard to tell and ppl might assume because of the necklace. Maybe because their 6ft 3 daddy also wears adult amber they don't comment negatively HAHA i dare them to have a go at him. Just state the facts, you have a baby boy is getting the best natural start in life minus chemical filled teething gels and other nasty pharmcueticals pfft to them!
I had the boys this weekend who both wear them and had someone ask me if they were any good and worth getting, so I said yes, and she is going to get one when her baby is born.
Anything natural is good as far as I am concerned.
Most people have been great, curious and ask lots of questions.. I guess you will always have those few who will be negative regardless of the situation or explanation.
i just let them know that they are made specifically for babies and teething...then like heva&zecky mentioned i go into boring details and they soon switch off.
also a good one now is to tell 'em that it is a far sight safer than bonjela...considering that stuff has just been taken off the market in the UK![]()
I just tell them how it works. Lol doesn't exactly answer the question, but bores them enough that they dont ask anymore questions.
I did have one crazy lady keep going on at me, I just told myself she was ignorant and tried to ignore her.
Yes, I just bought one for my DD2 and my mother is already on my case about how irresponsible it is because of choking, plus its also a crock of you know what.
I just tell them how it works, and then assure them that it DOES work and that's that. If they think we're crazy, that's fine. It's our decision and I don't really care what others think, anyway![]()
Never really had any negative comments. I find a lot of ppl do comment on it, I think mainly because he's a boy. But generally when I explain what its for they become genuinely interested.
I've only had one person, a nurse, try and give me a lecture on choking hazards and telling me he would choke himself at night blah blah blah
Whats wrong with Bonjela? Not that I use it, I use sm33
Someone asked me once if 'that cr@p really works' i said well so far the girls seem less irritable and i'm not having to dose them with nurofen and panadol so i'd say YES.
DD1 was horrid when teething, her poor cheeks would turn purple, some MG girls commented on the MAJOR different b/w purple and red cheeks so i knew it wasn't just me.
In regards to it not being SAFE i have on numerous occasions explained to people that the girls one has a knot between each individual bead so if 1 does happen to come off it's ONLY ONE and on occasion have pointed out that their uncovered powerpoints, sharp objects or crappy small plastic toys are of more danger to my kids![]()
i've had mainly good ones with the boys amber. my cousin bought them for her girls, after i said to pop them around their ankles at night and and adult one for herself and my aunt! and the girl i was talking to at the check out might get one for her DGD. which is fantastic!
the only bad one i got was about 2 weeks ago and some old codger bloke said "oh you know how boys who wear necklaces turn out dont you?" i smiled and said "better men then you i guess" boy did he get mighty angry. couldn't help it though. i was in a foul mood and for him to say that when i was talking to the check out girl about them made me wanna thump him!
I'm curious to read more about these necklaces! I have only used the brauers teething relief which is homeopathic. Can someone please give me a link?
Cheers!
I just ask them what they think is a concern and them tell them what we do - when she was younger we put it around her ankle when she slept, and we showed them the individually threaded beads that has knots either side so reduced chocking risk if the string breaks as only one bead rolls loose. Plus the clasp is apparently meant to break under pressure... Seems pretty safe to me, especially if it alleviates the need for adding paracetamol or ibuprofen to their bodies.
I've only had one negitive comment about allowing a boy to wear a necklace, from my brothers friends mother. She said "what does daddy think about you wearing a necklace?!" I said, "Daddy wears a necklace, too" (he wears a silver chain) Shut her up pretty quick smart
Everyone else says how cute they are!
My mum thinks it's cute, too. And my MIL wears amber herself as she gets nerve pain, can't remember what its called, fibromyalgia?
