Need your thoughts on DS1's distress last night - is dr needed?
Normally I'd never ask others if I need to take my kids to a dr - I live by the theory that if I'm concerned about their health - or if in doubt that they might need to go to a dr ... then I'd take them, as I know my kids best.
But ... this time, I'm bamboozled.
DS1 has been recovering from a mid-ear infection (and mega snotty nose) since last week - he's been on antibiotics and yesterday seemed all but recovered - nose had dried up and he's back to being his "usual self" albeit he has a mild cough which continues to improve. Today I was going to send him to daycare (he usually goes tue/thu) - he didn't go last week due to his illness.
But ... last night he woke DH and I howling and sobbing FOUR times . Initially he couldn't be comforted and was "mummy, mummy, muummeeee" and it took us a bit each time to comfort him back to sleep. He sneaks into our bed almost every night, so the first time he woke crying it was in his bed, but he was in our bed for the other "sessions".
My dilemma. He's woken and seems totally fine - full of beans, happy. There's no sign of a temp, his ears don't appear red ... the green snot hasn't returned. He didn't do a poo yesterday - still hasn't this morning (normally he does a couple every day), but he wasn't hunched over or holding his tummy etc last night as I might have thought he would if he had a tummy ache? He's never been constipated and hasn't had any changes to his diet.
What do you reckon? The only time DS1 has woken during the night like this, it's because of an ear infection (yet after a week of antibiotics, no temp, no red ears and seeming ok I'm doubtful this is the prob). Could he be having nightmares at this age? Even if he did ... would it cause him to wake distressed four times? Our homelife is happy and stable, he doesn't suffer any anxieties that i'm aware of. He's happy at daycare - no separation anxiety etc.
I should heed my own advice and just take him to the dr to be sure ... but I was just after some feedback. As I said, I know my kids and he seems fine ... but I'd feel bad if I'm ignoring another illness that's not immediately obvious.
