    Odd question about Bums...

I'll try and explain the best I can...

Brendan's bum cheeks are still joined, he has a little bit at the top which is fine and then obviously his poop hole, but theres about 1-2cms of bum crack joined.

    Is it normal?

It's only bothering me because of all this pooing (he's pooing WAY more than usual), the poo is getting stuck in the top unjoined bit and is a little difficult to clean.

The drs have never checked his bum. The CHN and Paeds used to check his testies all the time in the first yr, but never his bum, and I never thought to ask.

Um... I don't know... I've never looked that closely at my kid's bums!!! LOL

I'll have a look next nappy change and get back to you.

So you are saying that after the 'plumber's crack' ... it is joined? and then comes apart again for the butthole? lol

Peter's bum is the same! Its wierd, the bum seam starts normal for about 1cm, then it joins back up for a little bit, then goes normal again a bit above the poo hole.

Maybe its boy bums? I should check out DH's.....

    YES!!

Brendan's is quite noticable, I've always noticed it, just never thought to mention it.

LOL, maybe! Thanks for posting that, I thought Brendan was just a bit odd... but now there are two of them, they aren't odd anymore

Well if its a boy thing, DS missed out, lol!
I wouldn't be too worried though. I'm sure it's normal.
I have a dimple at the top of my butt crack...I'm still trying to convince myself its normal, lol! Even though DH & all my kids missed out on it

um Claire sort of has something similar I think. She's got her 'plumbers's crack' for about 2 cm then the butt crack sort of joins up a little bit (not entirely, but the butt crack is shallower for a little bit, if you know what I mean?) and then the butt crack goes back to normal (its such a damn cute butt!)

Could he perhaps have a sacral dimple? Claire doesnt have a sacral dimple, she just has a different bum! lol

Sounds like a shallow sacral dimple to me. Both my kids have minor ones.

I ggoled Sacral Dimple and it says its at the base of the tailbone, not actually in the bum crack. Although I may have read that wrong.

We see the speechy and occupational therapist on tuesday, i'll pop into the CHN while i'm there and raid her brains

    Thanks guys!

It sounds a little like a sacral dimple to me.
My friends daughter had one and they had the same issues when it came to pooey nappies. None of my kids have one so I can't compare.

I read this thread the other day and couldn't for the life of me think what dd bum crack was like.

Of course, I have had a good look since and yes she has a similar shape crack! Got me wondering and I had to check myself and I have the same thing !!! (I dont have any poo catching problems these days if that reassures you LOL) I think it must be a normal varation surely

NOT just a boy thing I guess.

    What a cool question!

I noticed that my son had a dimple thing right away, cos i have one - i kinda thought everyone did! It is soo cute on him i reckon! If you google sacral dimple there is heaps of info. I did cos I didnt no what the name was. One of my mates thought it was a female thing, until i showed her my boys bum! But i wouldnt be worried too much unless it has the signs - like one thing mentioned is "does it have hair growing out of it?" Otherwise they say its just a harmless dimple!

Both of my girls have that. The paed said it comes from a Grandmother. Not sure if that is true coz I aint checking Their dimples are about 1 cm down in the middle of the crack, and only visible when they bend over. Otherwise their bums look normal.

Just wanted to add something... Not sure how tactfully i can put it though...Here goes!

Im a beauty therapist and have been doing Brazilian waxes for the past 10 years and i've seen this a number of times in women. So, i think it is maybe a bit more common than first thought and it would appear that you dont "grow out of it" so to speak.

Both my kids have a normal butt crack, and then after it ends there's a bit more thrown in for good measure! LOL. Kinda like a mini-butt crack at the top there. It's quite shallow, but noticeable. I've googled sacral dimple, but none of the images really look like theirs. It's really just like a bit of extra butt crack at the end.
