    Pillows

Hi I was wondering how old your little one was when you gave them a pillow?
It might seem like a silly question but I'm just curious

I think the recomended age is 12 months. DD1 had one from about 14 months, but wasnt until she moved into a single bed at 22 months she started using it all the time.

DD2 is now 16 months and ive not given her one yet

I gave one to DS when he was around the 10 month mark. It's a very thin junior pillow.
He spends a lot of time in our bed and was sleeping up on the pillow with us (likes being real close to mum!) so he wouldn't go down in his cot without one!

Been thinking about the same thing Mako.

With DD I just waited till we converted her cot over to a toddler bed (ie took the sides down) and then we started making her bed properly (ie not shorting the sheets and placing her at the bottom of the bed) and got her a junior pillow. Probably going to look at doing the same for DS some time before bub arrives (he'll be almost 2 by then).

I think from a SIDS point of view, the recommendation is from 12 months.

Sara didn't get a pillow until she went to a big bed which was at 18 months. Even then she hardly used it.

    Thanks for your replies

The only reason I asked is because DS has been "using" a pillow at MIL's for a while now in his porta cot and I wondered if I should put 1 in his cot at home. I don't think I will just yet though as he's such a wriggler in his sleep still.

hi, my ds uses a pillow now and has done for maybe 3mths and he loves it! He is also a very wriggly sleeper and I will often find him just cuddling his pillow thru the night, but he alsways starts off on it. He will lift his head for me when I say do u want your pillow. Its so cute. It is only a small junior pillow that i got him from Big W for about $5.
He still is in a cot, i no as soon as I move him to a toddler bed my nightmares will start! He will be up and out and into everything!

ps I love the name u have chosen for your son!

Because we co-sleep DS starts the night with his head on the pillow and spends the rest of the night with his head under it We have a king sized bed so it is the middle pillow he sleeps under, not ours Although he also sleeps sideways along the length of the bed next to ALL of the pillows!!!!

He has been doing day sleeps (and the first half of last night) in his own toddler bed and stays on a thin pillow there so

I'm actually not going to give my ds a pillow unless he asks for one when he's older. It's much better for your back and neck to sleep without one- sleeping with a pillow gives me chronic headaches, so I never use one.

Just a thought. You don't 'have' to give them a pillow, unless you really think they need one.
