    Twin bike trailers

Hi has anyone got any advice for purchasing a twin bike trailer.

I have been checking them out on ebay. I don't want to spend alot of money incase the novelty wears off too soon.

Has anyone bought one off ebay before? Was it any good?

There are a few being resold on ebay in 'as new' condition - is this a bad sign.....

    Thanks, Toni.

Make sure they meet safety standards.

We have one off ebay, but we bought it for transporting our groceries home from supermarket, or other bulky stuff. it was cheaper than a cargo trailer.

Otherwise, go for it. The reason they're getting sold on ebay is cos the novelty wore off before they got used. Liek most of Australia's bikes

HEy, I borrowed my friends trailer because I wasnt sure how the girls would go....well dd2 who is almost 1 screamed the whole time and dd1 who is 2.5 wasnt too keen...too bumpy! So i wont be getting one. I think thats why they are as new. See if you can try before you buy or just pick up a second hand one. They are light on the bike....dont even notice its there.

We got one from K-mart for around $100 & love it!!! DS thinks it's great, & it folds up so we took it with us to the coast for Chrissy last year & rode to the beach everyday. Great way to get around & wear DS out. Have not used it much lately as I"m pg & it's too hot! I guess if they don't like it that's a risk you take not knowing til you get it.
Check the safety standards & what weight range it holds.....can it be transported, does it have a storage spot. Some on ebay are good, some a cheap take off versions.

We are getting one as DH job gives him $200 each year for health & wellbeing items, so that will cover it. Does anyone have any recommended brands etc?

I need it to have 2 spots, and would like it to also be a pram (not that i will use it like that much, but would be handy in those few emergency cases!)

What ones are worth the money? Are the BigW ones any better than the ebay ones? The ones in bike stores are around $500 which is a bit much for us

Any bike enthusiasts out there? Dh wants to take the kids riding each Sunday morning

DH checked out the ebay and Big W ones and decided that the "proper" bike trailers (ie: $500 plus) were worth the money. The cheap ones are heavy to lift in and out of a car, don't fold down as small, don't turn as well, aren't as comfy for the kids. By comparison ours (a Trek) weighs 12.5kg, I could lift it when 9 months pregnant, it fits in a commordore stationwagon or standard car boot, turns a circle on the spot and is comfy and roomy. I think if you want it to be a good trailer and double as a pram you should spend the extra $$.

All of this said, I am sure there are people who love the cheaper ones. I would just consider the above and do a side by side comparison before choosing. For the sake of a few hundred $$ over the lifetime of use.....

Chariot make *amazing* ones but they are quite expensive, but Trek is made by the same company and is the cheaper alternative.

Other than Trek and Chariot - are there any other major brands?

How much did you spend on your trek one?

I got one off ebay. It was about $125 plus postage.
The reason I got that and not one from BigW or Kmart was that it converts to a pram as well and theirs don't.
It's pretty light and easy to put together.
DS wasn't a huge fan at first, but after a couple of goes he loves it.
