    What are our options?

DS is 8 wks and at the age for first set of vacinations.
We are not against completely vaccinating, but wary of it. I am particulary concerned about the link between vacination of small babies and autism, which I think is thought to be due to mercury overload...? Which some vaccines still use and some dont?? Im not sure?

What are they given at 2mths and how can I know what the risk factor is? What are our options of how we choose to vaccinate our baby? At birth ds was given oral vit K and we declined Hep B.

Im off to see the mhcn tomorrow, can anyone give me some info before I see her?
If we did not have hep b at birth then i assume we will not have it done at any stage...?
ANd is it a particular vaccine associated with mercury or all ?

I think it was the MMR, and I don't think they add mercury as a preservative any more, but they did still use up all the vaccinations that used mercury...not sure if there'd be any floating around still.

As for options, you have heaps. Not vaccinating, selectively vaccinating, homeopathic alternatives, delayed vaccination schedule. We're planning on getting some vaccinations for our boys, perhaps before they hit kinder, but not entirely sure which ones yet. And saying 'not just yet' can get MCHN's off your back.

i was just reading earlier the leaflet about vaccinations from the mchn and it said that you cant do catch up and need to do them at the specified ages...

Well that's a great big fib, as far as I can see. It doesn't make sense! Why would your immune system be able to handle a vaccination at 12 months but not at 24 months?

Salsa - there a few threads on this already, check them out.
I actually posted one a little while ago that got a great response, really helped us...I think it was called "Alternatives to Immunisation"
There is also a BB article on reasons for not vaccing which may give you some good ammo for when you meet with your MCHN.

The nurses and doctors have a vested interest to get you to vacc when the schedule says so. You do NOT have to. In fact, some vaccs that require multiple injections over time, actually can only require 1 or 2 the later it goes.

Schmickers and his wife use an altered/delayed schedule and he is a wonderful source of info on the subject too.

Just be prepared for The Look, The Lecture and The TskTsk from the MCHN.
