No Debt but no Savings..anyone else?

I was just curious to see if anyone else is/was in a similar situation to me and my DP.

We are renting, DP is only casual at the moment so buying is not going to be an option for a couple of years at least. DP pulls in about 500-600 a week after tax, out of that he pays our rent (300 a week) and any bills that have come in (not many, just utilities every few months, he has a prepaid fone so no phone bill for him).
Im not currently working but living off my annual leave that i got when i left work, and will be getting about 400 a fortnite benefits from C'Link, from which i will pay groceries, phone bill, and a small interest free loan from my Dad....leaving me with next to nothing.

So apart from my loan to my dad (i owe him about 6k and pay him back interest free 100 a fortnite) neither of us have any debts...but we dont make enough to save anything either...so although we are technically living 'paycheck to paycheck', we are not in any debt with loans/mortgage etc.

So i was wondering if anyone is in this same sort of situation, not 'getting ahead' but not falling behind either.....or if you were like this a few yrs ago and have gotten out of it? im quite glad we have no debts, but one day we would like to own a house but its just not pheasable (sp?) at the moment.

    thanks guys

Yes, we are in the same sort of situation, living 'paycheck to paycheck', not in any debt with loans/mortgage, not 'getting ahead' but not falling behind. I don't see us getting out of it until the kids go to school and I start working again, unless I start working from home before then. But yes you aren't the only one.

    Yep same here.

My poor DH actually commented the other day about how we are sooooooo much better off finacially now than we have ever been in our entire relationship, yet we still don't seem to have any savings. The reasons behind ours though is that everytime we start getting ahead, something comes up, like the fact that DH's car got side swiped, it has taken ages for the insurance company to pay up for the repairs... he finally got it in there, and whilst it was in being repaired, the fuel pump died on it... $280 later we got it back today and it is due for rego tomorrow Argh!!!
So you're definitely not alone sweetie!

Lisa: the same here....we saved $400 into a seperate 'baby savings' account and then a month ago my starter motor on my car died....exactly 400 to get fixed...so nothing left in it now. we have enough to get by and never behind on bills i.e. whenever we get a bill i can pay it that week, but no 'savings' as such which worries me cause DPs job is only casual
