    Exclamation The response to my email to the Greens Party about outlawing homebirth . . . what the

    The email I sent to The Greens email address (the general one, not one to a specific person) was this;

    "I am emailing to enquire as to what the Greens opinion is on the decision by the Rudd government to de-register midwives practicing without indemnity insurance? Homebirthing midwives are refused indemnity insurance by insurance companies. Therefore if this legislation was to be introduced, homebirthing with a midwife would become illegal and midwives would risk being slammed with a $30 000 fine.

    This legislation removes every single womans right to choose where and how she gives birth. Homebirth has at least an equal infant mortality rate as normal pregnancies in hospitals do. There is even evidence to suggest that homebirths are safer for mothers and babies (in normal, low risk pregnancies) than hospital births.

    Many women are traumatized by hospital births and feel unable to face the same ordeal again, others want the calm, tranquil environment of their own homes when they give birth. Surely it is a womans choice where she gives birth to her child? Surely women deserve to be assisted by midwives other than being forced either into the hospital system or into unassisted homebirthing?"

    And this is the bizarre response I got from I. Bagia (i'll need to look up who that is on the Greens website);

    "I am a mother and am aware of the pros and cons of home birthing. I agree that every mother should be given the opportunity to CHOOSE where and how she has her baby. However, I don't see why the tax payer needs to foot the bill for that CHOICE. If a mother is choosing to have her baby at home then the onus is on her to take out appropraite insurances and if a midwife wants to partaking in this activity then they must take out their professional indemnity insurance. I am a Psychologist and have to pay for my own professional indemnity to practice and I am not dependent on the government for this."

    Whaaaaaaaaaaaat the??

    Are you sure you sent it to the Greens? That would have to be the most bizarre things I have ever read and not something I would expect to get from a Greens representative.

    Red face

    Ok, I just deleted everything I wrote because after what you said, Trillian, I rechecked the web address I sent it to (greens@greens.org.au - i thought) and I sent it to the wrong address! I wrote .COM.au rather than .org! This person is a total random! No wonder I couldn't find her on the Greens website! Why didn't she tell me she isn't the Greens party? ROFLMAO.

    That explains the other email I got; "
    We are Green's General Foods, believe you may have sent this email to us in error"

    One thing I don't get though; why is a psychologist working for Greens General Foods? Are they the ones that make those instant cake mixes?

    i was thinking the same Trillian. WTF? this person has no idea of the situation. who cares if they're a psychologist paying their own insurance - the email was more addressing the issue of making midwife attendance at a homebirth ILLEGAL!

    Don't be embarrassed, that's so something I do on a daily basis.
    Very interested to see what/if the actual Greens will come up with, so please let us know!!

    ETA, I wonder how many emails that Greens General Foods actually get for Greens Political Party?
    And is it just me or do you find it a little.. weird/odd/annoying/rude that that random person, who is probably a receptionist replied??

    Thanks for sharing. That's the funniest thing I've read today. What an annoying woman - taking advantage of an email mix-up to push her views instead of just saying 'nup, wrong person.

    Oh pleease, you should email and quickly explain the mix up - but ALSO point out about midwives being UNABLE to purchase their OWN insurance...

    No, I think you should publish her response to a home-birth group so she gets about 500 answers pmsl.
