10 August 2007 - our ivf miracle is here

Finally - after 5 years ttcing, 3 heartbreaking miscarriages (Mummy loves and remembers you all my little darlings), trying clomid, IUI, ovulation induction, chinese herbs, standing on my head, having sex every day, eating right, losing weight, not drinking alcohol or coffee, and finally one IVF Cycle - i am very pleased to announce that we finally did it.

Alexander Anthony was born three weeks early at Jessie McPherson private hospital - healthy and happy.

He weighed 2.84kg at birth and now three weeks later he is 3.33kgs !
48cm long, head circ of 32.5cm

Born after a 17 hour labour, pushed into the world with a little bit of gas helping Mum (ohh i love that gas).

Just amazingly incredible. He is the light that fuels my day, and just the sight of him has me welling up in tears at the sheer miracle that he is with us.

Now the fun really begins!

I cannot recommend Jessie Mac enough. It may not be the prettiest hospital out there, but the service and expertise is best bar none. Our little man started heavy breathing about an hour after birth and they had an pediatrician seeing him less than 30 mins later - while we were still in the delivery suite. They monitored and watched both him and I so closely that they picked up his jaundice before it really became evident and hence got it treated quickly, which was much better for him. The lactation consultant spent heaps of time with me. The nurses lent me books and sat with me during their breaks (they felt sorry for me as I had no visitors). The staff bent over backwards to help my baby and I get to know each other. They really really cared and their level of expertise was incredible.

The food was fantastic (I didn't want to leave just for that reason). I was there an extra day with Alex and they didn't care at all. We were lucky and got the best room on the ward (room 9 - check it out it is fabulous).

The only bad thing about the hospital is that it has the surgical unit at the end of the corridor so it was really weird sometimes to see old men walking the corridor in their pjs lol .

But seriously - it was fantastic and I couldn't imagine getting any better service anywhere else. If something does go wrong and they need extra help it is all in the same hospital.

The only thing they are really strict on is visiting hours. If someone does come out of visiting hours (except hubby) they will tell you off - saw it happen many times (to others - i hardly had any visitors at all and they came during visiting hours).

My OB was Christine Tippett - senational woman - she was exactly the person I needed to help me through this pregnancy. She mainly does high risk only though. The other OBs there are exceptional quality though - i haven't met one there that wasn't highly recommended by others.

My birth was exactly what I wanted. The only people in the room was my OB, a midwife, me (of course) and my husband. It went very smoothly and was a totally natural birth. I just used a bit of gas but that was all. It was exactly the birth experience I wanted.

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you all for your comments. We are so very excited to finally have our little man in our arms. I can almost forgive him the "non-stop crying for three hours" during the night last night. hehe. He is so worth all the pain. I wish nobody every had to go through a second of infertility and that miscarriages were the name of a female mode of transport and nothing more. I wish each of you easy journeys, and hope your mountains lay down flat before you.
