Well, I had a boy. His name is Daniel James and he came in to this world in a really huge hurry.
I went in to labour at 6:50pm on Thursday (22/2) night with 20 minute contractions. My husband and I were watching tele and my waters hadn't broken. The midwives told us to stay home and ride it out - maybe have a shower and have a sleep. Well, Daniel had other ideas.
Within the hour my contractions had gone to 15 minutes apart. I rang my mum and dad and confirmed that I was in labour (I was a little unsure that maybe I had eaten something that didn't quite agree with me). They decided to come over.
When they got here, they told my husband to go and have a shower as it would probably be his last opportunity. So, off he went. He was in there for 10 minutes and by the time he came out my contractions were 2 minutes apart. Uh oh!!
We called the hospital and the midwife said, "I don't think that's right." My husband said, "It may not sound right, but this is what is happening." The midwife said to come in and she would have a look. The drive to the next town with the hospital is a 15 minute one on the highway. We all jumped in the car and my contractions got to the point where there wasn't even a minute between them. I was screaming for my husband to let me out, " I NEED TO WALK!!!!!!!"
It is grape harvest time up here and we got stuck behind a harvest truck on the highway and he was doing 60 k/ph, so our 15 minute drive suddenly became a 30 minute one!!! Wrong time for this!!!!! My husband remained calm though - I DO NOT know how.
We got to the hospital and Daniel was born 6 pushes later!!! VERY CLOSE. This, by the way, is my first baby.
He was born at 10:57pm, so I was in labour for just over 4 hours. Now I have a beautiful baby boy.
