Lack of sleep is making me stress over everything. Tonight he pooped all up his back and over his lumber puncture wound. Now I'm scared the bacteria from the poo will cause mire blood poisoning ?? Am I crazy? The mother craft looking after him just dabbed it with dry cotton wool and said it looked ok but why do I still worry. It's the fifth time today I stuffed up nappy change. Lucky dh brings clothes every day ! He called tonight and I had to talk him through over the phone how to use the washing machine!
His iv also needed changing again as I knocked it out while trying to change his clothes. I suck
Loula :comfort::comfort: please don't be so hard on yourself. Remember, babies don't come with instruction manuals. You're tired, stressed and worried. And it sounds like you haven't been getting the support you need from the staff. You'll get there hun. William is doing better now and he'll get much better. Take a deep breath and let yourself make some mistakes. Get some sleep if you can - it makes everything easier to deal with.
If you're worried about the lumbar puncture spot getting infected, ask for a nurse to sterilise the area. It won't hurt bub and will give you peace of mind.
We all make mistakes, we are getting used to a boy, today I ended with wee all over the cot even though I thought his nappy was on properly. And we have no idea if we are washing him properly. One of the midwives even managed to get poo all over his cot in the scn, if it happens to them anyone can make mistakes.
Asking for his wound to be sterilized is a good idea though.
Hang in there it does get easier.
Lou- you do not suck, I got poo up Riley's back heaps and heaps when he was tiny and he was my 3rd child! It took me ages to be able to get his nappy on right. You are on a steep learning curve babe and doing an awesome job.
It is fantastic that William is doing so well and you are able to feed, change and cuddle him. Remember that lack of sleep makes everything seem worse than it really is.
Never be afraid to ask questions and ask for help, you are there for a reason so ask away. The more your questions are answered the more you will understand what is going on.
Re the IV coming out, don't blame yourself, that happens all the time especially with young ones.
As for the poo, look on the bright side, what is going in is coming out. I don't know of a parent who has not had that happen many times.
Demand feeds are awesome, hun!!! :cheer:
I think a poo incident is a real introduction to motherhood. ;) We've all been there... My baby used to manage to get both feet into the real poo-splosion ones too.
Weeing and pooing so well is a great indication that he's getting plenty of milk, so in some ways, it's a positive.
 I hope you have managed to get some rest and are feeling a bit better. You totally don't suck! My boys had poo explosions all the time! Many a time I had to strip DS1 off and put him straight under the shower . And the IV, man it would be fiddly and hard not to knock it out. Newborns are tricky enough to dress as it is!
It sounds like you are doing brilliantly :D
You are doing an awesome job Lou :D That's so fantastic he is demand feeding now!
 Please don't doubt yourself. I can't imagine the challenge of handling a baby with an IV
I still have poosplosions with my 2yo, they don't stop, you just get used to dealing with them!!! You are doing so well. It will get easier. Thinking of you. xo
Hun you are doing a fabulous job
Learning how to change a NB is tricky business and it took us a while as well, especially as we thought we would break her she was so skinny! The IV's are a pain as well, DD's was attached to a big board thing, they make it extra tricky to change them. DD was a regular remover of her NGT, she did it infront of us, her Paeds and MW's, she was so darn quick and good at it
Poosplosions will be around for a while, DD has had some absolute rippers!
So proud of you hun and I hope you have managed to get some rest xxoo
a BIG congrats to you this gives us hope
so glad all is o.k
xxxx
oh Lou, I'm so thrilled for you that you have your little man William and glad to read he is making good progress. Now repeat after me: I AM A WONDERFUL MOTHER. You must not be so harsh on yourself - this is about learning and responding to new things, moment by precious moment. You'll get there - everyone struggles with it. Be kind to yourself honey, you're very tired and emotionally exhausted from the birth, it'll take time.
I looked after my friend's daughter when she was very young. She had diarrhea and I had her for the whole day. When her Mum came home she couldn't stop laughing - I'd been putting her nappies on backwards all day! I was in such a hurry to get them on that even though I thought it was strange to have to roll her over so far to do the sticky tape bits up, I just kept doing it! As payment for my good nursing, I got her stomach bug and ended up in hospital on a drip the next day! It's funny now but at the time I wasn't laughing I can tell you!!
 to you - you are my inspiration xx
I am sorry I missed this thread when your darling DS was born, just wanted to pass on my (belated) congratulations!
