Question 4th degree tear & future births

I have a very young friend who gave birth just over 12 months ago. She had a very hard time, 4th degree tear & ended up in theatre for an hour & a half or so being stitched up.

She's now pregnant again & has been told she'll need a c/s this time.

Can someone tell me why & if thats the case no matter what? I'm assuming its obviously coz the scar would be more likely to tear again, but what are those chances?

Would she really be better off with a c/s, or would she still be better trying a vb?

A cs is a much safer option as a 4th degree tear has a high chance of bowel incontinence, so if you has had a successful repair allready best bet not to risk causing further damage.
