babe - we could have a "birthing party" when you go into labour and if you don't happen to make it to the hossy in time I think we could muddle our way through.
CQ has had 3 kids, I think between the two of us we could work something out

so very true punks! hahah! But I really would love some sort of ritual before baby comes so will be speaking to you :) x
I understand that, I'm the same. Maybe if i were to have more (not going to happen, #3 will be our last) I'd be ready, but not quite there yet so going with a hospital birth.
The thought has crossed my mind too because my labour was so quick with DS (well compared to DD anyway) and the only reason I went to the hospital when i did was because bub hadn't moved for 2 hours and I was concerned. Otherwise I would have stayed at home a lot longer - I was somewhat in denial that it was the 'real deal' after being sent home twice during labour with DD. I didn't understand how it could happen so fast the second time around.
But I live 5-10 mins max from our hospital so this baby would have to be a a really big hurry! LOL.
This CAN happen! My sister had her first two babies in sub 30min. The third she was 5min away from the hospital, got there, into the delivery ward on the bed and that was it. 4, 5, 6 - all happened at home. She got no warning at all. The first indication she got she was in labour was her waters breaking as the head descended into the birth canal. Her partner delivered all three babies at home in two contractions. Number 7 they induced early so it wouldn't happen again.
Don't mean to scare you, but thought you should know!
*Nelle dons her bandanna and gun to hijack*
So Inertia, after the first fast baby, there were no slower labours after that?
Wow Mags that's amazing! Deceptive pre-labour lol!
And yup Willow my mum's third was the quick quick!
40 mins from waters breaking (no cx beforehand), she was crowning in the lift at the hossy after trying to keep him in when her then DP told her off for pushing at home!
Then the twins came in about 4 hours... after a shot to stop the labour and being twins.
Ok, don't scare me girls!!
Don't care if my ob doesn't make it, but I at least need a midwife with me otherwise i'll freak out! Not to mention my DH!
I seriously doubt it'd happen though, DS was fast compared to DD but was still about 4 hours so plenty of time. I guess the part I worry about is me waiting too long to decide this is the 'real deal'.
Sorry - hijacking Amber!
Nope. They pretty much said after her first one which was close to 30m that they will all be fast. Pretty much like if you had HG or SPD in your first pg, then you will get it in the next one too. I havent really asked about the length of the induced labour. The synto could have changed the outcome completely.
As a general rule, every subsequent labour is faster than the last.
ETA: Anyone thinking that this is how labour should be, fast and almost pain free... My poor sis has had more stitches down south than a boxer has had in his life. I may have excruciating and long labours - but I love every minute of it when they have a look around and declare "A couple of grazes, but all intact"
There is an aussie freebirthing website that has all the info on how to get birth certificates, baby bonus etc...I was secretly hoping for a accidental homebirth too (didn't happen - but had a great hospy experience anyway).
I would love a accidential homebirth for my next bub! :D
A friend of mine had a 6 hour labour with her first, 20 min labour with her 2nd. So I suppose you just never know.
Don't be afraid to ring the ambulance as they are really helpful and talk you through each step.
They ask you for your phone no in case you get disconnected and keep you on line until the ambulance arrives. Just make sure the door is unlocked for them to get in if no one is nearby.
I know this first hand as I was on the phone when DD1 had hers at home.
Even if you are booked in to the hospital to have yours & the Dr doesn't make it, don't worry, the midwivies do a great job.
I can still remember hearing the Dr hurrying down the passage and arriving too late after my 2nd DD was born.
Still got the bill though.
*wink* thanks girls :)
lol Boomba - Ill chat to you on FB tomorrow :)
Brief description :
went to hospital they sent me home at 1cm - labour progressed super fast and DS was born on our bedroom floor :)
DH had 000 on the phone through the 2 hour full on labour (when i couldnt walk anymore!) and the ambulance arrived 30 minutes before birth. We stayed there for about 2 hours - BFing and chatting lol!!
Eventually ambo took us to the hospital (DH followed in car), got there at 1130pm (as i need sutured for 2nd degree tear) - we had baby checks the next morning and then went home.
:)
As for birth certificate - we had our address on there for place of birth :) Did take a lot longer to get it (9 weeks i think) as they need to confirm it was legit as there were no people to sign the form etc.
the hospital when i got checked gave me the paper work (with their stamp) for registration/medicare etc.
I had a planned homebirth with #3 but if it wasnt planned he still would have been born at home as i didnt realise i was in active labour until i felt the urge to push! My labour was 2 hours but would have been closer to 1 hour had i not forced myself not to push in hopes that the midwife would make it (she didnt anyway). But even though i was having contrax they were so faint that it didn't feel 'real'. Then all of a sudden i hit transition and then yep i knew, and that is when i called the midwife (bit late obviously!). I'm so scared for next time being the same or even faster!
My DP had a dream 2 nights ago that we had an accidental homebirth - have to say I find the idea somewhat appealing! Tho with a first baby it's probably unlikely.......
I have a feeling I may end up with a homebirth - but I don't want one. So, I'll be calling the ambos.
I may not be left with a choice.
I never had any pre-labour and it was all over very fast. I'll have to be super fast with my dialling finger.
My OB has me thinking this may happen to me... he said all is looking so good and the main thing i need to 'worry' about (though he said not really a worry) is that the baby may be born in the car!!! my 1st was 3.5hr labour...
in any case my ob will do an examination when i go for my 38/9 week appt - as i was 3cm dilated at this pt last time.. so we have some warning... and he said get into hospital pronto when i feel anything. he said no dawdling from me... or him!
anyway DH is going to read up what he would have to do... just in case. it isnt really what i want, though would be a good story to tell!
PP - you should just take having babies up as an occupation. You couldnt' even watch a movie in that time.
I am so glad there are more of us around than I thought. I always tell people and they think I'm full of BS. Not all labours are long and drawn out. Quite a few are very fast and we only just make it.
I wouldn't be able to not push at 10cm. I found I wasn't left with a choice. The pushing is completely involuntary.
Preagainpan - you are going to have to get a wriggle on too!!
