At 2.30pm this afternoon I got what I think is contractions but they are around my back (towards the left). It's been very irregular (20 mins, 15, 10, 40, 20 etc). Could this be labour starting?
I rang my midwife and she told me to keep an eye on it.
Has anyone experienced labour in their back and how was it?
I'm in a fair bit of pain every time I get a "contraction". But this being my first pregnancy, I've never had a contraction and was kind of expecting it to come from my belly!!
it all started in the lower belly but it ended up once my contractions were regular , they moved into the back and it was so intense , i needed a boiling hot water bottle pressed against me or the hot hot shower pounding against my back , i never thought it would be so much in my back but it was more so there then the front i was not prepared for that
although like i said my back pain did not start untill my contractions were 3 miutes apart, up untill then when everything was not so regular i only had the cramping pains in my belly
but who knows everyone is different, and if bubs is laying the wrong way then i would think ur back pains would prob start earlier
How are u feeling now? i cant wait for u to have ur bub heheh
definatley hope in the shower to ease the pain, use hot water bottles.
she may be posterier so spend some time on hands and knees rather then lounging on the couch
go with your body what ever you feel you need to do to ease it do it.
Hi I have had bad back labours each time, you know pretty much straight away.. contractions tend to be irregular for a while, and my waters have broken all but once. I'm sorry i don't have much advice, I could'nt really stand being touched, it felt like my back was breaking, nothing much helped..I actually pulled on some coat type hooks/kind of hung off them with each contraction to rack myself out.. don't lie down keep upright, walking or kneeling if it gets too intense.I used the gas each time except for the first baby 3rd baby I had an epi which was great and I would recommended it, it helped me relax..sometiems when you have pain like that you tense up which is not good as far as labour progressing, I wish you the best of luck. I hope baby turns for you.
All of that is really helpful guys, thanks so much.
It does help to be on my feet so am just wandering around the house and DH is timing my contractions = which are sorer than I expected for starter ones. They are still fairly irregular but all are lasting a steady 3 minutes at the moment. Might give it another hour and ring the hospital - it's been almost 6 hours of this. Not that I think I am close or anything, I know this could go on for a while but I just want to talk to the midwives again.
Might try a shower shortly.
Thanks again folks, I'll be back and forward to here over the next few hours I'm sure.
You are doing a great job and could be further along than you expect 3mins long is long, sounds like they are doubling up..yes the pain is more intense and you can feel like you need to push before you are ready, so if you get to that stage you need to be checked to make sure it is time.
I felt my contractions in my back due to my baby being posterior. They were really, really painful!! However he turned into the perfect spot just in time to push.
I also had a painful back labour with my posterior DD, please go to bed if you're not too uncomfortable and get some rest, you may be in for a few days of this if you're anything like me, then I was totally exhausted by the time it came to giving birth. Rest rest rest as much as you can for now!!!
Well, the contractions stopped at 3am this morning and I feel totally normal again. I rang the hospital again at midnight as the contractions were 4 minutes apart and really sore..... the mw talked to me and could tell that they weren't really that intense as I could still talk to her without being too breathless.
Am a bit frustrated as I thought that was it, but I did manage to get some sleep which is good. Maybe they'll come back today - maybe not.
Thanks so much for all your support everyone, I'll keep you all posted!
Sue x
Try and get as much rest as you can today Sue, i have a feeling it's not going to be much longer at all before you will be holding your little one in your arms.....my guess is you will have bub by the end of the weekend.
Goodluck, cant wait to hear your birth announcement
