    Being Induced Fri/Sat..Questions..

As the title says im being induced either Friday or Saturday (Friday if they have room for me if not Saturday) and im secretly hoping they dont have room for me Friday for reasons that follow..

DP is a Butcher; he's the only Butcher that works Fridays and cant take the full day off so this was our plan, he was going to drop me at hospital at 6am, stay with me until he has to be at work, go to work and as things progress i was going to let him know and then he would come up to the hospital. Im fine with that, but it means i will be in the birthing suite on my own for sometime...do you think i would be able to take my laptop with me? Im not sure how things are going to go (ie how fast things will move) so i wouldnt mind having something to do whilst im there alone...does that seem silly?

I was told the start of the induction process can be long so just wanting to make sure im not bored...or wont i be bored?

    Oh does this make sense?

(DPs work is a 2 minute drive from hospital too, just thought id clear that up so he can get there as soon as i need him )

Take ur lappy hun, i did and i have wireless internet so was able to surf the net while being bored out of my brain!!!
i dont think theres anything wrong with ur DP going to work, depending on how ur cervix is look u may have to wait a few hours for the gels to take anyways, not much point both of u sitting around being bored.
Sending u labour vibes hun, hopefully that little miss of yours shows her pretty little face b4 friday

Can you explain the situation to your care providers and asked to be induced on Saturday or Monday instead? It's nice to have company. Whatever happens, wishing you the best of luck. x

Yeah the start can be quite slow, they will keep coming in to check how strong and frequent your contractions are and turning things up to make them stronger.
I remember watching some of the rememberence day parade on telly, they will probably have a telly in the delivery suite for you too.

I'm sure you can take your laptop in with you. Sounds like a good plan with DP, if he's not far away then you will be able to get him when you need him as long as he is able to leave as soon as you call him.

PS mine was a 21 hour induced labour so you're right they can be long.

It depends how you are being induced. I was put on the drip and the contractions came hard and fast. Bub was born 3.5 hours after the drip went in.

From my first gel to DD being born was over 30 hours, but no I wasn't in labour that entire time, in fact I was only in labour for the last 7 hours when the drip was started, and I was bored out of my brain for the first day. It took that long because my cervis was nowhere near ready and I hyperreacted to the first dose of gel. Might be good for your DP to work if that is what is going to happen for you as it might take his mind of it and give him something to do.

I was induced using the gels first, but if they don't bring on labour fast enough then they will probably put you on a drip as they won't have the luxury of sending you home for a few days if you know what I mean.

my 21 hours was from they first started the drip. If I timed from when I was given the gels it would have been 29 hours.

I was induce twice. With DS the Gels didnt work so was induced with the drip the next morning....I was BORED out of my mind! DH wasn't there with me, but was close by...didn't need him though till the morning.

With DD I was started off with the Gels which put me into labour. Contractions started at 12am (ish) I called DH at about 2am - he was close by again, and DD was born at 4:35am....no time to get bored!

    Good luck!

Do you have someone else to go with you? It does often tend to be a drawn-out affair, but you never know.
How favourable is your cervix looking? When were you due? The gels generally get your cervix riper and ready for AROM and syntocin. Sometimes they are enough to kick-start labour, but often not.
I didn't have gels, I had tape & balloon put in the night before. The next monring my cervix was still high and fairly firm! So it all just depends.

Do you have someone else to be with you? You can't predict how long it will take for labour to be established, and how long it will take. I would make sure you have someone else with you, if DH can't come in until later.

Hey beautiful, i was induced also, i went in on the Sunday and they i had the gel overnight not much happened, i lost my mucus plug, then they decided try break my waters the next morning but my cervix wasn't ready which was pretty painful, but they couldn't get to them so decided to try the gel again to see if that would help ripen it up, but i ended up going into labour before they could put another one in about 1/2-1 hour later about 9 hours later DD was born, so like the others have said it can be a lengthy process.
Ill be thinking of you Friday, is their someone else who could come to keep u company/give u support ? i can't wait to read your BA im so excited for you
    not long now hun xx

Im not sure if anyone will be familiar but here goes the scoring system i got yesterday from the midwife ...

    Dilation was 1-2
    Length of cervix 2
    Station -3
    Consistency medium
Position - cant read what she wrote but starts with m and is in between pos & anterior

Mum wont be here until Saturday afternoon, she's driving up from down south, all my friends work. Im fine going in on my own just wanted to keep myself entertained. TBH if its a slow process and DP is there he will probably drive me nuts LOL
