    Blood loss after birth

DS is just over 3 weeks old and of course like everyone I have been bleeding after the birth. The first week was heavy and the past couple weeks I have worn pads still but not too much loss - it was mostly a dull brown, pink colour.

Today I went to the toilet and found my pad with lots of bright red blood (though not heavily soaked) and when I wiped there was more bright red blood. Is this normal? I read on the internet that red bloos loss should go away after a week then it changes colour even though you can still bleed for up to 6 weeks.

Should I be concerned? What could it be? I feel fine though did feel a bit dizzy this morning which I thought was due to being a bit anxious (trying to get organised!!)

I'd give your hospital/OB a quick call just to double check. When I was discharged I remember them telling me that there should be no fresh blood after two weeks (could've been one, can't quite remember). Probably best to just check with them rather than worry about something that might be nothing.

    Congrats on your DS!!!!

The same thing happened to me. my bleeding turned brownish and stopped after 3 weeks, then came back a couple of days later quite heavily and red. My MW checked my stiches and felt my tummy and said all was okay, but it'd be best for you to get it checked out as my MW told me it can indicate an infection. In my case it wasn't, and hopefully not in your case too! Good Luck

Yep, get it checked - hopefully nothing but can't hurt to be sure

Get it checked, but a similar thing happened to me.
My bleeding stopped for a day, so I thought woohoo! But then the next day it came back heavier, I thought it was AF but it wasn't, just my bleeding coming back from a short holiday.

I think it would be a good idea to get it checked

same thing happened to me and I was concerned as I too had read that it should go pink or brown and if it goes red again its not good. I called the nurse at the GP clinic and she said its fine. My loss would swap red to pink to brown and back again on and off for 6 weeks
