Caling all Gold Coast mums - where did you birth???

I am currently trying to decide on my mode of care with my next pregnancy and birth and just wanted some feedback from all of you lovely Gold coast mummies. Hopefully this may be of help to other future mummies too!

    So, I want to know:

Where did you birth your baby/babies?

How did you birth you baby/babies?

How would you rate your antenatal, labour and postnatal care?

Would you go there/do it that way again?

And please feel free to include any other info you think is relevant

    TIA

Have to be quick because i'm about to go to bed...

Where did you birth your baby/babies? Gold Coast Hosp (numbers 2 and 3)

    How did you birth you baby/babies? DD1 - CSec - DD2 VBAC

How would you rate your antenatal, labour and postnatal care? - Fantastic - they incouraged me to try for a VBAC and were very supportive. There was also a fantastic LC there as well. Onl went for a few antenatal app and they weren't great but I didn't really expect them to be!

Will come back later with more details

Would you go there/do it that way again?

Hey Combat Queen, thanks so much for your reply! For my next birth I am hoping for VBAC so what you said has been very helpful. My first was born at Pindara and was an elective cs because of PIH. And sadly, one under a general because the epi failed
In hindsight it was a very unnecessary cs. My medical records show my BP was normal just before going into theatre, and at delivery bub was healthy and so was the placenta and cord. But, I was naive and went along with what I thought needed to be done .
I am considering GCH as one of my options.

C/mon, there must be a lot more lovely GC mummies out there!!!

I also went to the GCH both times.

For DD i was admitted 5 days early due to PE. The care was fantastic & all the midwives were lovely.....except for 1 horrible old nurse. When my waters broke she didnt believe me & actually asked in a real mean tone of voice "are u sure u didnt just wet ur pants"! I almost cried. The Dr came in & i heard her say the same thing to him. He said "I think i should be the judge of that dont u think?" As soon as he had a quick peek, he said " yep definatly time to get ready".
I had to be induced & have the epi to keep my bp down. All in all it was a great birth besides being hooked up to so many machines.
    I left 1 day later.

I went back to GCH for DS. It was a great birth....very fast, but great. My midwife was beautiful & stayed with me even tho her shift had finished.
I had alot of problems trying to bf ds whilst i was there & there was always someone there to help me out when i would get frustrated.
I left about 12 hours after he was born.

I found the gold coast hospital a great place to give birth. Besides that old nurse(who wasnt there when i had Bodhi). I would definatly go back there if i ever(which isnt in the cards any time soon haha) decided to have another baby.

I was going to go to Pindara, though I ended up at Mater Mothers in Brisbane as DS was 7 weeks early. My Pindara Ob is Tim O'Dowd, and I will definately use him for my next baby, hoping to go to term, if so, I will go to Pindara. Though if you're looking for a VBAC maybe John Flynn would be best. They are very pro natural births & I've heard great reports from people who went there. Hope that helps. Good luck

Hi Amy and Georgi, thankyou both for your replies.

That's great that you had such a great experience at GCH Amy. I have heard that there is one dodgy midwife there. Probably the same one eveyone seems to mention . But i guess they are everywhere. I had one of those at Pindara and when I tried to tell her I had a bladder infection (I felt aweful and my pee was the colour of a rose` wine, sorry tmi!) she just dismissed me and told me that it was probably just how my bladder was meant to feel after the cs) well I think I know the difference and i sure DID have an infection!

Hi Georgi, I remember reading your birth story. I agree that John Flynn is much more pro vaginal birth and Pindara isn't VBAC friendly at all really. Well only 2 OB's do them. The rest insist on repeat cs. The OB I had with DD (Penny Isherwood) does do VBAC and she is currently supporting someone on her quest for a VBA2C at Pindara so I'll be keeping an eye on how that goes for sure. Also Pindara's overall cs rate is above 60% which is a bit of a worry, but probably largely influenced by the 7 OB's that insist on repeat CS.
Only prob is JF is at the opposite end of the coast to me and I'd hate to get caught in traffic on the highway whilst in labour.
