    Smile Cervix question.. someone!!

Ok this may sound weird but at the hospital on thursday i was told my cervix is soft and spongy, 2cm long and 2cm dilated but she couldnt do a sweep.. so now i dont understand if i was 2 cm dilated you would be able to sweep wouldnt you??

    Thanks in advance...

The fact that your cervix is still 2 cms long it means that you aren't effaced yet. So your cervix hasn't thinned out as yet.

2 cms dilated is a start but keep in mind that your cervix would have never fully closed back up from your previous bubs births.

I would wait for that stretch and sweep until you are overdue. If you are ready to go into labour you will on your own time.

My client last week had a stretch on the Wed, and had show and contractions for the rest of the week. Back to the hosp on Mon and they did another sweep. This one put her into labour and she had pains from lunchtime until she birthed just after 2am the next morning.

Goodluck and I hope all goes well.

Thanks Trish, i was a little confused, i thought with the dilation thingo it may of been what you said, although, i was hoping for more LOL. I have decided i am going to go over, which is pretty normal for me. I dont mind, my bubs is going to be healthy and probably HUGE!
If i do go into labour early it would be good, but like i said im not getting my hopes up!!

Just because your cervix was not really effaced at your appt, it is no real indication that you wil go over at all. You could start contracting tomorrow and have your baby then. Or it could be another 3 weeks away.

Are you drink RLT or using any EPO ? They both help out greatly

    Hi,

I've been reading this thread with interest..... less than 48 hrs before my DS was born I had a growth and devleopment scan and my cervix was measured at 3cm and there was no sign of dilation and DS's head was not engaged. I'm not particularly savvy when it comes to the whole labour/birth process but from my experience it seems like it can all happen very quickly if it wants to!

Scorpiomum I hope you get your wish and bub arrives early for you
