A friend has suggested Clary Sage Oil to help bring on labour. Has anyone got any experience with it? Like even how to use it? Is it safe after a previous c/s (she mentioned something about it being use to make contractions stronger). I'll head up to the health food shop when DS wakes up but thought I would see if anyone has any experience they would like to share.
I used it as a belly rub, mixed with a carrier oil. It gave me instant, strong contractions, but they stopped when I stopped rubbing. It works well in early labour to speed things up though.
I used it with some massage oil, my friend then massaged it into my ankles and pressure points on my wrist, I also rubbed it on my belly. My bubs kicked and carried on like crazy that night and I had him the next day. I was 11 days over .
I used it in early labour too to try and get things really motoring along, my doula recommended massaging it in circles across my lower belly, and things ramped up quite a bit. It is quite strong and a little goes a long way. Apparently some hospitals wont let you use it once admitted though, as some women can be quite sensitive to it and not all women in a maternity ward are there for labour, if that makes sense.
Apparently you do have to be a little bit cautious with the strength of the mixuture you make up because it can lead to stronger contractions and put pressure on your scar.
I made up quite a weak mix to rub on my belly every night from about 36-38 weeks last time
thanks for the response ladies. The shop was closed by the time I had the chance to get there yesterday and its closed today, so will have to try again tomorrow. Thinking from the responses in the bath might be the best way, rather then directly on the tummy. Or at least a small amount seems enough for those that it worked for.
