41 weeks here.
The MW at our antenatal classes told that it's not true that 1st timers are usually late. That was our assumption too, but apparently not necessarily so. They rarely come on EDD (bout 5% I think), but they're most commonly late OR early.
Claire arrived at 38+4. I was pretty chuffed that I didnt have to wait until after the EDD to meet her.
I wouldnt automatically assume your first will be late. My mums first was born at 35 weeks, my cousins first at 34 weeks, my aunty had her first at around 36 weeks... I dont particularly think it runs in families, but I just thought from all that that I should be prepared. So my mum made me pack my hospital bad when I was like 30 weeks! lol. I worked until 37 weeks, but honestly could have worked up until the day before she was born - i just didnt like my job so I opted not to!
When i told my boss he said "what?? no way. she wasnt due for another week or two!"
According to my dates, DS1 was born at 40weeks+3, according to the drs, he was 42weeks (some brainiac decided to bring my due date forward by two weeks at my 16week scan - how can my dates be out by TWO weeks?? LOL!) He was just a BIG bub!
My other three kids all came early for various reasons.
My 1st child - born on her EDD
2nd child - Born 39w3d
3rd child - born on his EDD
4th child - born 39w6d
So I actually have had two of my children on their EDDs, which apparently is very unusual, as I gather that less than 5% of babies arrive on their EDD (I think that stat is right!).
My 1st and only bub came " 2days after " her due date
She was originally due the 4/05/06 ... We thought WOW what a brilliant birthdate ... but she arrived on the 6/05/06 (on her Uncle Ryan's 18th birthday )
DS-1 was induced at 41 weeks, and I thought he was going to come early,as I was born a month early. It doesnt work that way, lol. Good luck with your birth.
My first arrived the day before his due date on feb 20. I worked for a newspaper and finished work the day the Christmas eve paper came out so I had 8wks off and it was bliss! I spent the day reading all the books I wanted to read but had never gotten around to reading, sleeping in, having a nanna nap in the afternoon - Loved having such a long time off before he came.
My 1st DS was Post date... I booked induction for 41 +10 days and the day before induction i started having contractions, had my water broken and Dr said by looking at the placenta bubs was 43.5 weeks at least...
With my DD i went over aswell induced 40+10 days.
Wish i had of gone early but looks like i'm one of those unlucky ones who's bubs needs longer to cook
My son came early. 38w 4d. I only got 7 week days at home before I gave birth. I was bored as after the first couple as I'd already done everything & could hardly walk due to swollen feet.
Both my girls were born on their edd and they were both born on the 9th of the month!!!
I gave up work at 35 wks and I enjoyed that time. My work collegue gave up at 38wks and she had her bub the next day...he was her first
Personally I think you should give up work when you want. That little break before your first child is the only break you'll get for the next 20 odd years....and then the grandkids come
I convinced myself through out my who pregnancy that Flynn would be about 2 weeks late! I went into labour the day before he was due and he was born on his due date! I wasn't actually ready cos I thought he'd be late!!!
I worked with a lady who finished work at 36weeks and she had about 5 days to herself before (1st) bub was born.
Another lady from my mother's group had her bub at 36weeks too!!!
I finished up just before Christmas so I had nearly 3 mths of R&R before having Flynn. It was bliss, reading, sleeping, reading!...Make the most of any time you get off. It will be the last you get for a loooooonnnnnggggg time!
DD was born at 40+11, they wanted to induce me the day before but I piked out. i started getting contractions that night and she was born the next day (I had ARM and synto at the hospital) I gave up work at 36 weeks, and was really grateful to be able to spend time snoozing, swimming, shopping, getting foot massages and watching trash on foxtel. It would have been bliss if it wasn't for the huge belly, swollen feet and constant need to pee!
