    Question Full moon?

    Does anyone know if there has been an actual study done about the effect of a full moon on labour? I've heard lot's of stories about it, and it seems that the emergency departments and delivery room nurses talk about it "unofficially" but I'm curious if there is any research that gives statistics on this.

    I have heard from mws that your water is more likely to break during a full moon, but yeah, thats just hearsay....would be interesting if there is an official study!

    I dont know of studies related to labor but;

    My mum used to work in "crisis care" as a social worker. Thats the emergency response group for domestic violence, sexual assault etc. They have done studies and have seen a marked and predictable rise in violent behavior leading up to and during the full moon. That includes responses by other emerg teams such as police and emerg rooms in hospt.

    SO I think anything primal is exacerbated around the full moon - I would think there would be a shift in numbers delivering near a full moon if you are due anywhere near it.

    It would be interesting to see any data on that.

    Again NO scientic data but i have worked in the aged care for many years... And I cringe at a Full moon... I know when one is comming due to Residents behaviour (especially in the dementia unit)...

    Funny isn't it, some of my midwives said the same thing, I'd come in for an appointment and say 'how's it all going' and they'd say 'flat out - full moon!' I've noticed people in general can go a bit strange around full moons at times. I'd love to know if there's ever been any research on it!
