With DS1 my waters broke 6:30pm at exactly 28 weeks, he was born at 30+1 weeks at 3:15am, 344.75 hours after PPROM. It was about 3 days after my waters broke that I got my first contractions, however I had been on drugs to stop them coming to try and pro-long labour.

With DS2 I had already been contracting for 8 weeks before my waters had to be broken approximately 1 hour prior to birth at 34+3 weeks.

apparently after 12 hours infection can set in. because ds2 wasnt born untill arround 18hours after mine broke, i copped a huge ear bashing of one midwife and both ds2 and i had to have antibiotic drips and blood tests every few hours for a few days "just to be sure" due to the time frame.
It depends on hospital policy - with DD, my group practice mw was happy to let me go to 4days as long as I took my temp every 4hours and she would come and see me 2x a day. With DS, they were giving me to the Monday morning, so that would have been 35 hours (luckily for me, L&D were really busy, otherwise it would have been 24hrs) and it was a different hospital each time. Although with DS, i was GBS positive, so had to head to hospital once my waters broke for antibiotics anyway.

With DD, contractions started 16hours after waters broke and she was born after another 16hours, but between them breaking and labour starting, I was getting uncomfortable niggles.
DS, it was 24hours without a single niggle until they started, but then it was only 4hours till he was born, (and only less than 1.5hours of active labour)

With my first, my water broke at 3.30am yet I didnt start having contractions until 11pm that night. With DD2, my water broke and 15 mins later I was having painful contractions 5 mins apart lasting a minute. Good luck!!!

At the time, They told me 24hrs but that was 15 years ago. Proberbly is 12 hrs by now. I did know it was for the risk of infection though. This was just one of the many things the hospital / OB (at the time) stuffed me around on. I had to stay in hospital the whole time though & didn't get any infections... Luckily!

At the Angliss they told me 48 hours in the normal delivery area, and when I was in the birth center they told me 96 hours. And in both cases when/if you reached that time they would induce
