i was born in 1974 at the san in sydney. i must have been late because mum was already in hospital to be induced when labour started. she always says i was a considerate baby because i arrived at 6am-ish & it meant she could have bacon & eggs for breakfast (priorities!). it was an unassisted vaginal birth, i think she used some gas.
1970. DD1 was born in a fast 1st labour
1971. DD2 as born after the nurse sent my Dad away saying "labour will be ages yet" our family Dr turned away for a moment and out she came.
1974. DS was born. Mum had been in for 2 days as dad had a golf tournament another fast labour when it started.
1981. I was born.prolonged posterior birth. they had just brought in monetoring and Mum made then turn it off as it was upseting her hearing my HB go right down. It was to late to transfer Mum to a hospital that did CS so she had to give birth naturaly and in great pain.
All of us were natural and all in the Ulverstone hospital
My sister was born about 10 days over due in Whangerei, NZ - all natural.
My sister was stillborn at 21 weeks in Whangerei NZ, so induced and I'm pretty sure there was painrelief involved. Mum didn't handle it well, she was bleeding and her veins collapsed and they had to call a code blue. They are surprised even now that she survived. She ended up needing a D&C after my sister was born, as there was retained placenta.
I was induced 10 days early in Horsham VIC due to suspected IUGR (how ironic, now that I think of it.... DD had severe IUGR), I'm pretty sure Mum had some pedadine with me. Turns out I wasn't that small, 6lb 12oz.
Brother born all natural with no pain relief in Nhill VIC. Mum was really sick with the flu, so she struggled but managed to do it natural and push out a 9lb baby, he wasn't breathing and needed a puff of oxygen, and was OK
Brother born in Nhill VIC. Mum wanted to do it natural, but for some reason they gave her pethadine without asking. My bro was born facing up, and as he was delivered he pee'd everywhere.
I was born in 1981 at a private hospital in Melbourne. I believe Mum was induced when I was 2 weeks over due. Her waters had to be broken and she says that they hit the wall but I don't know if that's true She kept saying I was coming but the staff kept putting her off, wouldn't call my Dad or her OB as they thought I was hours away...she proved them wrong!
She had retained placenta and was extremely ill for the first few days after I was born. She was out of it and couldn't hold me or anything. When they finally brought me in to her she was seeing double and freaked out that she'd actually had twins
I was born in 1977 in Adelaide, 7 days after my 'due date' which was on my mother's birthday.
Not sure but I think she had pain relief, pretty sure gas & maybe peth.
She always talked about how much things changed by the time I had my first 17 years later. She was taken in, made to lie on the bed, not allowed to get up & move around and feet in stirrups for the delivery. It was pretty horrible for her...
My sister was 10 years later, private ob, induced at 9 days postdates (I think), gas and epi. A bit better for her, at least then she was allowed to move around!
I am the oldest of four. Mum was induced with me becasue they told her her pelvis was too small and the baby couldn't get too big. She was scared after seeing on her notes that she could expect a difficult delivery. She had 4 hrs of contractions before begging for a c/s because she was scared. So I was born via (classical) c/s under GA.
I was born in Queensland in 1976 - poor mum was in labour with me for over 2 days. Dad did lots of back massaging and whatnot, but as far as I am aware, there wasn't much in the way of drugs on offer anyway. I was about 10 days overdue and very well cooked! Dad was so traumatised that he wouldn't let Mum have another baby and put her through that again!
Mum tried to breastfeed but I was always screaming hungry and her milk was 'no good'. Even though it was the 70's dad was a hands on dad and apparantly did both wet and pooie nappy changes!
1977-My mums waters broke naturally a couple of weeks early, she went into labour and labored for quite a few hours before my heart rate dropped and I went into distress, so she was rushed off for an emergency c/s. My mum had pethadine and gas and obviously an epidural for the c/s. I was f/f and was on solids pretty early and she lied to the mcn about it...lol
1981-my sister was born vis c/s and was f/f
1982-my brother was born via c/s and was fully b/f

1969 in NZ - My older sister was a VB and arrived a couple of weeks early.
1971 in NZ I was the hardest of my mums labors as I was posterior and actually broke her tail bone on the way out. Born on my due date 2 days after my mums 24th birthday. VB also.
1975 in NZ. My younger sisters were a quick labour and born close to full term. Again VB. They were surprise twins with my mum not knowing that she was having twins until the first baby had been born!
Me, 1981, RNSH. PROM at 5 days prior to EDD, then 72 hours of synto failed to produce sufficient contractions, so c/s deadline was set. Established labour began 40 minutes before the looming deadline. 7 hours of active labour, and then I was born on the ob's lunch break. Second degree tearing, gas for pain relief. First birth the m/w ever solo attended, and my middle name was chosen after her.
Sister, 1984, Hornsby Hospital. Placenta praevia diagnosed at 8 weeks, but it moved at 41. Labour began spontaneously at 42 + 3 in the middle of the night. No pain relief, no tearing. Mum in squat position. Smallest of the three kids at 2.8kg, placenta looked a bit dodgy.
Brother, 1986, same hospy. 48 hours of early labour - enough to convince mum and the midwives it was the real thing. AROM on day 3 brought on established labour. 4kg baby, 3rd degree tearing, hospital for 9 days post partum.
My brothers and I were all all vaginal deliveries. I am not sure on pain relief if any as I have never really discussed it with mum.
We were all born in Adelaide but in different hospitals.
My oldest brother was born in the Queen Victoria which no longer exists, in 1968. I do remember her saying that her waters broke just as she was getting out of my dad's car, and they ran down the driveway
Not sure on my 2nd brother he was born in 1970
I was born at the Modbury Hospital in 1976
Non of us were breastfed, as my mother told the sister on duty, that she was "No cow"
I am one of four.. Not sure about due dates. i think we were all a bit early- we were all small too, about 5-6pounds. Mum breast fed for about 6 or so weeks fo reach of us, then she thought she would do the right thing by bottle feeding us so she could drink coffee and smoke again :P
My oldest sister was born in 1975 in Whittier, California USA.. mum into labour naturally, waters broke in bed (she says thank goodness my uncle was staying with them or she would have come home to the sheets still covered in waters as my dad was hopeless lol) They gave her an epidural which she hated. I think she was a fairly quick labour, VB... delivered by the midwife coz the dr didnt get there in time.
My next sister was born in 1977 in Sydney (not sure which hospital)- no epidural this time, again a very quick labour (3-ish hours from first pains to baby).. delivered by the midwife again coz the dr wasnt there yet.
ME.. back in America, Whittier Hospital.. this time i think mum had pains but her water hadnt broken yet, they broke her waters and she said it hurt abit. No epidural but maybe peth??This time the DR was there and mum said he was really rough and she would have preffered he WASNT there... still a quickish labour only a few hours i think. Mum ended up heomoraging a few days after she got home, she was ok though- i think she had a night in hospital maybe.. dont know.
Then the god of all children, my brother was born in 1983 in america.....
He was the only birth my Dad attended. (He was filming the whole thing lol) Another quick natural one... Dad had a thing about the car we all arrived home in, for Sister one it was some old thing (like classic) Sister two was something else, i was the yellow station wagon.. lil bro was a limo lol All that fuss and they didnt even know for sure he was a boy (no ultrasounds)!!! After gettin ghis boy Dad was booke din for the big V a week later No more kids after that!!!
I was the first of three
1984
Royal Womens hospital..sydney
Mum was in hospital with pneunomia (sp?) around 41 weeks pregnant... with me... Labour never started. They were monitoring me.. my heartrate started dropping. I was born via emergency c section at 2 weeks overdue and came out BLUE! Mum had general aneth. 7pound 14 ounces
1987
sydney - not sure of hospital... my brother was born via elective c section at 38 weeks ....6 pound...something
Mum had a ectopic pregnancy in 1990 and lost that baby
1991 my littlest brother was born via elective c section also at 38 weeks.... not sure of hospital ..sydney....
None of us were breastfed, mum has inverted nipples ....
Mum fell pregnant with twins when I was 15 in 2000 but had a termination. She was in an abusive relationship with my stepdad at the time. She also knew how much it would hurt my dad... they had been divorced for three years... mum was also 39.....
Older sister born 1982 in bankstown, vaginal birth not sure about drugs or her due date
Me born at 37 weeks, cambelltown hospital, vaginal birth, no drugs. My mum was oh shopping when her waters broke, my dad didn't believe I was coming so early. I guess all the talk about Christmas got me going lol
Younger sister born 1990, emergency c/s due to being breech. Not sure about her due date.
Wow, what an interesting thread! So interesting to read what our Mums went through, be it only 20yrs ago or longer and how different or similar their experiences were with each child.
I was born 1981, Wollongong Hospital - 2wks late so Mum was induced, it was discovered 7hrs later I was footling breech so Mum had a c section. Not sure what pain relief she had during labour but she had a general for the section.
1997, My brother was born, Mum was 35 and had a private Ob, but the private hospital didn't deliver so she had him in Wollongong hospital, but then was transferred to the private hospital the next day I think.. She went over dates and had high BP so was again induced. I think it was another 7hrs or there abouts and she was taken in for another section. She had gas and pethidine during labour and an epidural for the section.
2002 - Last brother was born. Placenta previa this time, so another c section was planned, however at 37wks she started hemorrhaging so it was another emergency c section. Mum had an epidural with this one as well. This Bub was born in the private hospital which by this time had a birth suite. Mum also had her tubes tied during this c section.
Mum had my sister in 1982 at Box Hill hospital. In labour over 24 hours, post dates, ended up with an epidural. Born sunny side up and delivered with forceps. She was 8lb 8oz, and was a very difficult to settle baby.
I was born at Pambula Public Hospital in 1987, post dates also but short labour (not exactly sure of length), no drugs, no assistance, 8lb. I apparently slept through the night the day I got home.
We were both champion breastfeeders but I "self weaned" at 3 months and would only take a bottle. I've always been stubborn lol
I was born in the late 80s, I am the middle child. Mum gave birth to me naturally following a natural twin birth a year prior to my birth, and then gave birth naturally to my younger siblings 18 months and 3 years after my birth. All in a small country town.
I don't know how long the labour was, and I don't know if she used drugs or not. She 'forgot'.
