I bought 4 packs before i had dd & probably bought another 1 or 2 packs before i went onto normal pads. If you have stitches they may suggest you change the pad each time you go to the toilet to ensure good hygeine & that can mean lots of changes.
I bought libra & kotex, both were fine for me.

I bought Libra maternity, and the "you'll love coles" overnight pads with wings. both were fine, but the latter was about half the price.
the libra ones used to come in a lightly woven cover which was great though, because you could use it as a shield between you and those little iceblocks they give you for down there ... but when I bought them recently, they had normal plastic covers ...
I used three packs in hospital - Libra with wings, I agree the Kotex are scratchy.
Continued to use them at home for a couple of weeks before switching to normal pads. Have only just gone to liners 5 weeks post-partum.
Gotta love the multipack undies too, Rio to the rescue!
I preffered the kotex for the heavy bleeding 2-3 days after my births then went to the libra mat pads
I used the libra ones and got through 1 and a half packs then just changed to normal pads
I used the libra maternity ones, they r pretty thick so comfy while you heal, I preferred them over the goodnight ones, I didn't need to use two at a time, and never thought of using the blueys! And my hossy didnt supply any.
Also second the black undies, I got heaps with ds and still have plenty in the drawer ready for number 2!
Great idea about the cheap undies!!! hadnt thought of that!
Also, i thought libra goodnights were maternity as well? What colour are the normal maternity ones?
I bought Libra and only bought 2 packs before I had DD1. I only used them for a few days and then went onto normal pads. I didn't even buy anymore when I had DD2 because I still had them left over, lol. So you don't necessarily need to buy heaps! I never used two at once either, I think they pretty much reached from one end of my undies to the other they were that long.
But definitely ones with wings!!!! And buy some plain black undies.
I think they are purple too, just have maternity written on the front. could be thinking wrong, I haven't looked for any yet lol
popping in to add a thanks to everyone =) I got me some cheap undies from Kmart (only one pair is black...the others are light colour cause that is all they had, but I picked up 6 pairs for $3 so who cares) and picked up a pack of the libra maternity pads to use (I also had another pack I ....borrowed *cough* from work before I left, hehe) so FX I'll be set until I can downgrade.
so thanks little_O for starting the thread =)
with the cheap knickers, you might also want to get the nanna nickers which go up to your waist, just in case you end up with a c-section, you don't want any undies that will end (and therefore rub) around the time that your operation site will be.
also, the maternity pads are very long, and so itty bitty knickers might not be long enough to contain them properly!
this will be a time for comfort and confidence ... go the granny pants.
Libra goodnights and Libra maternity are exactly the same product so if you go with Libra just buy whichever is on sale. I bought 3 packs I think and only used about 1 but I didn't have any stitches so I guess I didn't bleed much? I like to use a Libra goodnight with AF when I go to bed so any left over came in handy for that. I also went out and bought the big black nickers. They were a waste of money, unless you get around in a thong or really skimmpy nickers every day and don't own any regular comfy ones I would bother buying any especially for the occasion. Maybe I'm a grandma but the goodnights and maternity fit fine in my knickers.
Cloth pads are the best I reckon!!
I just used some Bamboo trifolds the first few days them on to my cloth pads. Sposies make me feel icky now i have been using cloth a few years.
I have a latex allergy so I only used Kotex as they were the only ones who had latex free written on the packaging
