There is only one week to go before Federal Parliament resumes on the 7th September and the Lower House debates the Medicare-related legislation. If passed, they will effectively make midwife-assisted homebirths illegal after July next year.

Thankyou to all the people who have responded to our ?National Call to Action? mini-campaign by calling, writing and visiting your Labor MPs. It is critical that we keep up the pressure in the Labor electorates this last week.

If you have not done so yet, we need you to urgently pick up the phone this week and call your Labor MPs and/or Labor senators. Let them know your unhappiness with the bills and ask that they represent you, their constituent, in Parliament next week in opposing them. We want independent midwives to be able to continue to support women who choose to birth at home. We also want any homebirth eligibility model to include a ?duty of care? clause which allows women to make an informed choice about homebirth even if they do not meet (often very restrictive) eligibility guidelines set by hospitals or medical professionals.

If your electorate is a Coalition seat, we still need your help to contact the Labor senator for your area.
