    Tell me about Hypnobabies/hypnobirthing

I've had Hypnobabies recommended to me. Is it the same as hypnobirthing? What are they? I really don't know anything about it.

I've only heard of hypnobirthing, haven't heard of hypnobabies. Our doula recommended some hypno birthing CD's that I listened to before birth. Lots of guidance and relaxation strategies, putting in positive statements, (rather than the loads of horror stories that you hear when you're pregnant). The CD's that I listened to started off with early pregnancy and then preparing for labour and there's one for when you're in labour. They're great to listen to before bed and when you're in labour.

I used Hypnobabies home study course. I also tried a hypnobirthing class but only went to one day. I wasn't impressed, compared to Hypnobabies. Hypnobabies is fabulous and has a lot of support, including text, a birth partner support handbook, the CDs & an online support group. I didn't use all of it in the birth with DS1, but what I used was incredible. I have had 2 mostly drug free births based I what I learnt (a bit of gas with Ds2) and I wasn't even using it properly with DS2.

The supporting text covers self hypnosis, the physiology of birth, nutrition, affirmations. It's fabulous. I also think it's better value for money, given the Calm Birth class we went to was about $400. Even with shipping, Hypnobabies is less than that.

I've never done hypnobabies, but have done hypnobirthing and calmbirthing. I found them both to be excellent programmes but would probably recommend calmbirthing purely because of it's Australian focus.
