A good thing to do is get your partner/birth support person familiar with it. And maybe do up a little card with some prompts on it for him to keep in his pocket if he gets stuck.

The problem most of us have in labour is that the "academic" part of our brain pretty much shuts down. Our older, primal, instinctual brain very much comes to the fore during labour - the part that controls breathing, sleeping, orgasm....all of our instinctive behaviours. This is actually really important for keeping mother and baby safe during labour - this part of the brain needs to be in the drivers seat.

But what that tends to mean is that alot of information that we have a grasp on "intellectually" just disappears.

If you can have your support person up on it, and work out ways to remind him he is usually going to be in a better position to remember that kind of stuff and then he can help you to remember it as well.

All the best, the pink kit is great isn't it? I have a few copies that I loan out and everyone loves it.
