position of cervix at 38 and 2 days? midwives? doulas?

    Just out of interest...
At 38 weeks and 2 days, I think my cervix has "gone upwards"...up until about a week ago I could "check" my cervix (very carefully/gently) and I could feel how open it was....about a week ago I felt like I was a couple of cms dilated and could clearly feel the opening. However, now I can't feel it at all - I cant even touch my cervix..
I dont know if it is because my stomache has got a lot bigger in the last week and I cant get my arm around it!! Or whether my cervix has already started rising towards the uterus or something.
I have been having quite strong period pains (lasting for 5-10 minutes) for the last two weeks, usually at night...but not regularly
Are there any midwives/other people out there who know whether your cervix does rise when labour is more imminent?
    Just wondering.
    Thanks

    Hi Ttcno2
Yes your cervix does move higher during pregnancy but it moves at different times in pregnancy for different women so it is not a good indicator as to when you are going to give birth.
