Potential Labour and Inc Newborn with Sick Toddler...

For only the second time in her 2 and a half years of life, my DD is sick! She is a bit sniffly, has a little cough but doesn't seem miserable or anything at least, no temp. I'm 38w 3d pregnant (DD came spontaneously at 38w) so labour could be soon (it could also potentially be a month away and this a distant memory) but I'm freaking out about potentially being sick during labour and/or the newborn getting sick when she arrives. What do we do? I don't want to avoid my daughter (and it isn't very practical either) when we only have few precious moments before she becomes a big sister and I definitely don't want her to have to be 'on the outer' when the new baby is around so what other sort of precautions can we take? She is still breastfed so I'm hoping that might help it pass quickly but what else can I do? Either preventively for me or otherwise for her. I'm guessing she picked it up at family Christmas as my brother wasn't 100% and she started coughing that night so it has been a couple of days so far, what sort of time frame are we looking at?

How do you survive labour when you are sick? With DD I only had a few puffs of gas and was not a fan so won't be using that this time, I was hoping to avoid everything else also but am worried if I'm sick, I will get exhausted and might not have the will power to get through. DD was a ~12hr labour so not too long but not that short either, it definitely took it out of me even being in good health!

Already feeling a bit heavy headed and flemmy but might just be pysching myself into it... DP was also a little sniffly Christmas night but seems fine now...

I could have written your post! DD picked up a cold at family christmas gig, and has shared it with DH and I. I am 37 and a bit weeks, no signs of labour but really hoping to get rid of the sickness before anything happens.

DD was only sniffly for 2 days (she is also breastfed) (25th & 26th), and my nose started 27th and DH 27th in the arvo. Hoping we can also get rid of it quickly, although DH seems to be hit harder (unless he just has man flu).

Maybe get on to the Oranges today and chicken soup or other immune boosting foods.

I laboured and birthed DD2 with a cold and blocked nose.

It did make breathing through your nose a little harder but I survived the labour drug-free.

DD2 did catch the cold off me though and it probably did take her a little longer to get over it the poor little poppet but she was fully breastfed so I think she probably got over it quicker than she would have if I wasn't breastfeeding.

For her blocked nose I would squirt a little bit of breastmilk down her nose to open up the nostril. It seemed to work.

Hopefully you don't go into labour for another couple of weeks and all will be well.

    Good luck!

Hope you are feeling better soon HotI and no labour vibes till it passes! I'm not having any signs yet either thankfully and my ribs are still being assaulted so she seems quite high... just stressing because DD was an early bird but hopefully this one is as keen to get through the New Year as I am!

Going to just try and rest as much as possible, luckily DP has this week off and I was already planning to take it easy! Chicken soup sounds good mmm with lots of garlic lol.

Thanks Sara, I can do it... I can do it... I can do it... or yep, hopefully still have weeks to go and no need to worry about the added sickness factor!
