Pre labour placenta eating for mood

Hello, possibly strange question, I hope someone can assist.

I am 39 weeks pregnant and have been having prelabour signs for the past week (stronger practice contractions, diarrhoea, etc) including two nights where I was fairly certain the practice contractions were developing into active labour, but which eased off after a couple of hours of strong contractions. Slightly annoying but very similar to what my body did first pregnancy, where I had a week of pre labour before the real thing.

This time around however, I seem to have developed a very intense form of pms! I'm so cranky and irritable and teary that I imagine I'm quite unpleasant to be around. I'm mostly fine in the day times with my son, but at night I'm so cranky and irritable it's like turning into a werewolf by the moonlight. Not helped by our families getting over excited and anxious about the impending birth - I'm only 39 weeks, calm down. They do not know about the prelabour signs, fortunately! Have kept that info just between me, husband and midwife.

I have placenta capsules in my freezer from my sons birth 18 months ago and I have a vague recollection of my doula telling my I could use them later on for mood and then for menopause (long way off!) but dont remember much about it and can't seem to google the right info. Does anyone know if placenta eating in a subsequent pregnancy is an ok thing to do? I assume it can't hurt as it's essentially just old frozen, powdered meat... And the benefits if it works are a more balanced mood, I'm just after some reassurance I guess.

hi! there is an article in my sig re placenta eating. yes it can help balance hormones and thus your mood.
I can't see how it would have a neg effwct. esp as you are term. I'd avoid it in early pg. but in saying that I also can t find any info in it during pg....

    Hello
You can take your capsules now, but they probably will induce labour. This is why it isn't advised to take them during pregnancy as they can bring on labour. As you're experiencing pre-labour signs and are 39 weeks it would be OK to take them at this point if you felt comfortable with it and realise it may kick things off!
    Good luck with the birth.

Thanks for your opinions . I ended up taking the placenta pills yesterday around lunch time, and after another morning of miserable mood they seemed to kick in fairly quickly and have been feeling energetic and positive ever since (like magic! Or an out of this world amazing placebo effect, whatever you want to call it).

Had another night of prelabour contractions last night that lasted for two to three hours and appeared to be increasing in intensity but then subsided again. And my mood was so good I didn't even care, and am currently feeling happy waiting for active labour to kick in.
