Short cycles with heavy, prolonged periods after birth...

How long did it take for your periods to become regular after giving birth / BFing? How long is your cycle, how long does your period last for and is it heavier than it was before giving birth or not?

I had my DS last year 30/09/2010. I got my first period back on 02/04/2011 when DS was 6 months, 2 days old. So far my periods have been 31 days, 26 days and then 24 days! I always used to have 27 day cycles, my period lasted for 6-7 days and it was always heavy the first 2 days, then medium flow for a day and then light until gone. Ever since that first period on 02/04/2011, it lasted 8 days, then 9 days and again my most recent period was 9 days. It's also super duper heavy for about 8 days and then it just turns to spotting before it's gone by day 10...

We are planning to TTC bub #2 in September (around the time DS turns 1) but just want to know whether it's normal for periods to be a bit whacky after birth or whether I should start thinking about seeing my GP/OB for further advice....?

    Thanks in advance!

I'm pretty boring .. 7 months after #1 went back to regular as clockwork, 4 months after #2 and 3 months after #3. I don't really count days, I tend to just count from ovulation but its about 4-5 weeks, always has been. I always get ovulation pain so have been using the rhythm method on occasion in the past (works until you get a partner that wants to get you pregnant, but that's another story).

As to how heavy though ... after #2 it got heavier and shorter. And heavier and shorter again after #3. Had to completely change what I use to deal with it all.

Mine did get very heavy, but after my twins were born (3rd and 4th children) and I was told it was a by product of having had so many placentas cited in my womb and that it would not get better I've not heard of it happening after just one child though, so maybe things are still settling down for you.
