    Special drink during labour

    Hi All

I have read a few birth stories where they had a doula give them a special drink during the labour. I get the impression it was something the doula made up for the birth. Any idea's what it might be? I know some people drink gatorade etc but though if it was a herbal/natural drink it might be better

    TIA

You can use Weleda Blackthorn elixir during labour it is great. I made ice cubes out of it too. Also as an ongoing tonic whilst breastfeeding it is brilliant.

i made my own labour aid incase i was in for another long labour, turned out to be a pretty fast one but i had my drink anyway.

from memory.... juice from a few lemons, crushed magnesium/calcium tablets, ment to help with pain and reduce chance of bleeding, honey for energy. mixed with water. google labour aid. it wasnt the tastiest as the tablet tasted a bit yuck, but a bit more honey would have fixed that!

it was good to know i had something to keep my energy levels up and i couldnt eat casue i had such a dry mouth. and it gave me something to focus on while i was having my early contractions, pacing round the kitchen, breathing through contractions, juicing lemons!!

I just used the red powerade and it was amazing!!!!

But I have heard magnesium and iron are great to add for muscles and blood loss

I had three cups of coffee.

That was on the Monday afternoon, two and a half days into the birth ...

It was made by my DH, not a doula

I hope you find out what it was!

I was going to say gin, but each to their own. Every woman's labour is different

I had water with rescue remedy drops in it, and the midwives brought me sports lucozade.

I've been reading Juju Sundin's Birth Skills book - has this for labour aid drink - 1/4 cup honey, teaspoon salt, 1/3 cup lemon juice, I crushed calcium tablet, 1 litre water (can be frozen as blocks for sucking)
