    St George private kogarah

    Hello,

I'm planning to give birth at St George private (Kogarah) with Dr O'Connor.

Who can tell me positive/negative experiences with this hospital/OB?

And is it possible to give birth under water?

    Thanks,
    Britt

    Hi Britt,
I had my DD at St George Private 18 months ago- wow time really flies!
I had a different OB though- Dr Karantanis.
The hospital facilities were great- nice delivery suites- with private bathrooms, big bath and shower- I didn't have a water birth, and I don't know the hospital policy on water births- although I wouldn't mind finding out as well, with bub no.2 on the way!
Anyway, the midwives were wonderful- would help out anytime of the day- when I needed help BFing in the middle of the night they would come in and help.
My hospital stay was 5 days- the first night was in a shared room and I was moved into a private room as soon as one was available- which was the next morning.
The private rooms are lovely- more like a hotel than a hospital, even the shared rooms aren't too bad.
As you can probably tell, I had a really positive experience during my stay there, and I will be having my second bub there in november.
    I hope this helps,
Good luck with your PG and birth!

I am booked in for the end of the year with Dr Karantanis. We went to an open day there and it seemed very good from that! I remember in the birth rooms they didnt have a bath only a shower and I dont remember them mentioning a water birth room but I am not sure. Maybe go and have a tour and ask the question.

    Thanks for your reactions!

Jleigh, could you give me an estimation of the costs to stay in the hospital during 5 days?
Since we've got an overseas private insurance we first have to pay everything ourselves and then we can claim it back from our private insurance. We know what the OB will cost, but it would be nice to have an idea of what to expect from the hospital costs.

    Thanks!

    Hi Britt,
Sorry, I've only just seen the question you asked me about hospital costs. My health fund covers the hospital stay, we only pay a co-payment, but that is an option we chose as part of our cover, so I can't really help you, sorry!!!
Hope you are well, and already have your question answered!
