    Question syntocin

    Hey ladies

Not too sure if anyone can answer this, but if you can share your experiences, it would be greatly appreciated!

With DD i went on sytocin after my waters broke and 12 hours later i had no signs of labour. Well my labour was quite quick once they gave it to me, it was about 6 hours.

They say your labour is suppose to be quicker, the more pregnancies you have, as your body knows what to do. Will it be quicker for me, even though i was on syntocin with my first labour?

Did you have sytocin with your first labour? Was your second labour quicker again? Or was it slower??

I just don't know what to expect - i don't even know if what i'm asking makes sense, grr pregnancy brain!!

    thanks
    telly

i know what you mean. a friend of mine was induced with syntocin and had her baby in 5 hours. her second time round she was induced with rupture of membranes and her labour was 12 hours.

i was induced first time round with gels, rupture of membranes. had epidural and then synto and all up it was like 15 hours or something like that.

second time round i was induced with rupture of membranes and had baby in 4 1/2 hours. had synto for last 40mins or so cause i got an epidural towards the end when they didnt realise i was so close to pushing stage.

i guess it just varies from person to person, labour to labour! :-)

i was induced 27 hours after my waters broke with DD1,(labour didnt start, think she was posterior) she was born 9 hours later,
with DD2 waters broke, labour did commence and she was born about 15 hours later, so longer but much much better, i liked the gradual build up of contraction, as opposed to the ones from the syntocin

AJP thats what i'm thinking/hoping, they will be more tolerable because they will build up slowly - the syntocin made the soo full on from the beginning. Fingers crossed i go into natural labour this time

Hollo - thank you for your reply. I guess it must vary from labour to labour.

Starting to get a bit nervous about the day actually. DH said to lady at his work yesterday that i'm going to try for a natural birth, and she laughed at him and said "ohh yeah, tell her good luck with that!!" - grr how rude! Nice way to build my confidence!

hun i refused to even think about induction because i would never be induced again!! it was full on
this time i did things to prepare for labour and im glad i did!! i actually enjoyed my labour was a great experience, contractions got bad about 11 hours into labour, and quiet intense only an hour prior to her been born, but still not as bad as the induction contractions

Oh, mate. Please do your best to ignore comments like that. I had heaps of people say crap like that before I had Natty. Not helpful.
Wishing you all the very best for an awesome natural birth.

I've only had one birth but had ARM, synto and an epi and was done and dusted in 4 hours! So I always wonder what my next birth will be like if I go by myself. It was extremely hard and fast yet I enjoyed it...strange.

    Hey Tellytubby

I have been induced twice and my experience was great the second time.

First labour was 6.5 hours with syntocin. Painful, but had an epi, and pushed out 4.2kg whopper with little issue.

Second labour, also with syntocin, 1.5 hours. Contractions more managaeable and I credit this to a calmbirth/hypnobirth approach with lots of breathing and relaxation exercises and visualisation. I think it took three pushes to get her out at the end. No damage at all. Best day ever.

Good luck, every one is different!
