Is there any likely this will progress into something more..?

I have had contractions every 10 mins. Some ranging every 7-10 mins for the past 10 hours!!!

Has anyone else experienced this? and how long did it take for it to progress to something more??

Could be pre labour or it could be the begining if the big event. It's really hard to guess. If the contractions continue and increase in length and intensity and the gap between them shortens then I'd say it's possible you're in early labour. Try to rest and conserve energy if possible.

Either way, your body is doing a fantastic job of preparing itself for birth.

    What Spring said

Try and rest up and encourage things to die down.....another week of baking will do your bub the world of good! But if it's meant to be now, don't stress, just don't leave it too long to ring the hossy

I was always told by the midwives that if a shower and some panadol got rid of them, then they aren't proper contractions. I don't think they would be the 'real' thing at this stage, but you just never know - more than likely it is early labour and this can last for weeks.

Make sure you write them all down so you can see if they are actually getting a regular and increasing pattern.

Have a Panadol and a warm shower like Trill suggested and rest up. They could be BH, or early labour, and given your earlier post about your show, it could be the real thing.

Relax, either way, things will happen all by themselves If you are really concerned, call your hospital or midwife and they will give you some more ideas.

ETA: Just read your post above - I had a 36 hour labour So rest up - if it is the real thing, it can go for a long time - pre labour can last for days for some. As I said, it will all happen with or without you lol so take the chance to keep resting, or whatever your body is telling you it wants to do. Keep us posted!!

I forgot to say that at 12pm i had a show and since then its been contractions every 10 mins. At 1pm after a full hour i called the birth suite they told me to come in with my bag and they would monitor me. After 2 hours because it hadn't progressed to anything even though some of the contractions were VERY painful. Had me in tears and moaning but because they hadnt progressed they sent me home and told me to come back when they are 5 mins or less apart or if my waters break.

But its been 10 hours of this! some contractions take my breath away others aren't so bad.

I've been relaxing all afternoon, even had a bath which made them more painful so i got out.

Could you maybe try some panadol and a nice warm heat pack and curl up in bed, i know it's easier said than done but often it helps.

GL with it all and keep us posted... think when Z has her middle of the night feed i will be on here checking up on you

Sounds promising hun. Definitely rest up and definitely keep us all posted

I found for me that the real contractions lasted even whilst laying down. So that was usually a good indicator of whether I was in proper, leading to something labour.
Although, with Anelise they went away each time I layed down and whilst laying down my waters broke... I hopped up and could barely walk because she was so far down in my pelvis! She was born 1.5hrs later!

I had contractions 15 minutes apart for hours, then half an hour apart, but really painful for 3 hours, then 5 minutes apart with DD2.
Get as much sleep as you can now, coz if it is prelabour, it could go on for a while yet. You can safely take panadiene forte to help you sleep if you like

You can lose your plug up to a week before labour starts. This is just a sign that things are starting to happen. Have a shower, take some panadol and go to bed - you'll just wear yourself out sitting up waiting for them to get regular and if they establish themselves overnight then so be it.

Hang in there. Unfortunately I can tell you from experience that it is possible to have contractions for a number of weeks before having bubs. That may or may not be the case. Try to relax, have a shower, try heat packs and get your DP to give you a massage. Bubs will come when they are ready - maybe now maybe in 6weeks, and unfortunately we don't get a say in it.

Everyone is different, have you called the hosp to ask what they suggest, are they bearable at this stage?
    Have you had a show?
GL with it all, hope it's sooner rather than later.. how exciting!

I'm with skybie if it gets too much for you go in and get an internal and demand pain relief.

They told me as I was laboring for the first time with dd2 (dd1 was a emergency c sect) that I would go for hours, they didn't do an internal and 45 min later she arrived.

Mine were every 30 seconds and almost 2 minutes long when I finally went to hospital and I was talking through most of mine too, and I wasn't screaming in pain either...It is different for everyone.

If you feel you need to go in, go in. But don't be scared to labour at home, where you can walk around when you want etc.

    Good luck

Good luck hun, hopefully things either settle down a bit or ramp right out and get this baby out!
Remember to stay calm and trust your body, just remember you don't NEED an internal, i never got one with either of my girls even when they said i don't think you will go anytime soon i 'knew' in myself what was going on, with DD2 they checked my contractions (MW feeling these no internal or monitoring) and said progressing a bit but think it will eb a while as i was only 5min apart and supposedly not strong enough... i knew different and DD was born 20min later.

Go with your gut, stay strong and rest as much as you can.

hey hun, I sooo know where you are coming from, I went through exactly the same thing, cxs every 5-10 mins for DAYS!! BH my ass! I was having pre labour....I just wanted to let you know though, I dont want to scare you, But in hindsight, I wish I hadve stayed at home longer, I went in for my 40wk antenatal appt and told the ob what had been happening, she did an internal (mind u I had already been sent home twice already, once thinking my water had broken, another when I was in soo much pain, they gave me panadeine fte and sent me home) I was 3cm, she said get upstairs, were inducing you, so ARM, drip, constant monitoring and 10 hrs and NO progression later I ended up with an unnecessarean. Thats just what happened to me though, I didnt follow my instincts, I was excited and just wanted it OVER.
So I do know how you feel, but please, try to relax, (easier said than done, I know!) Have faith that your body is doing what it should. Keep trying to find ways to make yourself comfortable, if it works stick with it!
Good luck hun, thinking of you xxx
